The Panthers could have used a little more rain on Friday night

Good Evening!

Nothing like four Dodger home runs and a 12-1 victory over the Giants, and Brad Penny, to wash down a miserable afternoon of USC football.

Was that James Loney’s first homer at Dodger Stadium this season?

The last time I saw a back up USC quarterback wearing number 15 like Aaron Corp did today it was Scott Tinsley and he also lost to Washington…way back in 1980.

Reports from La Habra on Thursday night said South Hills HC Steve Bogan, normally even keeled, was as visibly upset about the Huskies loss to the Highlanders as folks had ever seen.

Actually the sprinklers going on during halftime at Monrovia were a nice distraction…

De’Shawn Ramirez, only a sophomore, will have his time. He is talented, but its Nick Bueno who stirs the drink for M-Town.

Note to Anthony White: Chuck Piper (1955), Bill Davis (1957), and Randy Backus (2007) all lost their first two games as HC at Temple City.

Good for the Southmen: They were deep inside of Lobo territory last night when time ran out. Workman improved to 3-0, but South El Monte is starting to right its ship.

Last Note Temple City: Alhambra has defeated the Rams three consecutive times at North Field (2005, 07, & 09)… The last team to accomplish this was Monrovia (1999, 97, & 95) and San Marino turned the trick in the 90’s as well.

With Rosemead trailing 26-0 in the fourth quarter Friday night thoughts began to drift to the last time the Panthers were shutout. It’s happened four times in the Matt Koffler era. Los Altos blanked Mead in both 2006 & 2007. Arroyo in 2004 and South Hills in 1999…Just something to think about.

Since we are talking shutouts the Charter Oak defense has pitched 14 of them this decade, including Friday’s 48-0 blanking of Diamond Bar.

For the 12th time in 38 years of football Mt. View has started a season 0-3.

Duarte’s 12 scoreless quarters (three games) to start this season, raises to surface El Monte’s 1974 season when the Lions were only able to produce 35-points the entire season.

On this date in 1997 San Gabriel, led by HC Gary Orona, defeated Temple City, 34-7, for the first time since the season opener of 1968 (12-0- Sept. 20, 1968) thanks to a solid defense and quarterback Brady Andrews’ two touchdown passes.

Current Temple City assistant Zeke Prado caught a 34-yard scoring pass from Andrews and returned a kick-off 95-yards for another touchdown.

Stay thirsty my friends…
