Coach Zernickow cannot afford a loss to Monrovia this week
Good Afternoon!
The world has changed (but for the better?) when I see MVP Barker stressing over Tony Romo’s performance Sunday night against the New York Giants. Barker an avowed Cowboy hater before the days of fantasy football would have been doing a Russian folk dance in the streets at the mere mention of Dallas disaster.
Fantasy football has changed this.
Have I mentioned how much I hate fantasy football?
I don’t think Ray Hernandez envisioned being 0-3 in his return to La Puente this Friday night with South El Monte.
We know the 2009 condition of the Southmen and Hernandez, but the bigger part of the equation is how HC Brandon Rohrer, Garrett Hrey and the rest of the Warriors bounce back after last weekend’s loss to Baldwin Park.
Mid Valley staffer Andy Villathedevil was very impressed with Montebello’s Eric Espinosa 162-yard performance in the Oilers 42-12 loss against Rowland.
For what it’s worth outside of a three game losing streak to open the 2006 season, South Hills has not lost back to back games since dropping two to Los Altos and Walnut in 2002.
Whatever the Huskies do this Thursday night one thing they need to do is get the ball in Geoffrey Vaughns hands more often.
…And yes, the Ronnie Tennell lining up at d-end for South Hills is the same Ronnie Tennell who shined for Northview last season.
I hear Ashton Kutcher is going to be on the sidelines at Marinelli Field Friday night when Rosemead host’s Harvard-Westlake.
Temple City leads its all-time series with Arcadia 16-14-1. “The Brawl for the Mall” was an annual event between the schools from 1974 to 1998. In 1999 & 2000 the Rams dropped the Apaches and played Los Altos twice. After being outscored 89-6 against the Conquerors the schedule was adjusted.
Things faired better for Arcadia in the interim of the series as they defeated both Santa Ana and St. Monica. Jon Dimalante’s squad did try its hand against Los Altos in 1999 & 2000 as well. Greg Gano’s squad won both meetings by a combined score of 88 to 13.
The schools reestablished the series from 2001 thru 2004
On this date in 1989 Temple City’s Terry Fesler hit Chris Liu for a five yard touchdown with 34 seconds left on the clock to give the Rams an 18-14 victory over host Arcadia. Liu delivered the critical play on the drive catching a fourth and ten pass from Fesler for 18-yards and a first down at the Apache 16.
Dick Salter’s Apaches would win their next seven in a row and capture the Pacific League crown before falling to Westlake in the first round of the playoffs.
Jim Walker’s Rams would drop its next two games to Rosemead and Schurr before sweeping the Rio Hondo and advancing to the semifinals for second consecutive year.
Note to Bill Zernickow: With the Smudgepot game looming with Bonita, keep this in mind; San Dimas has never beaten the Bearcats in seasons where they have lost to Monrovia.
Last note on San Dimas-Monrovia: Not only is former San Dimas assistant Craig Schuster on staff at Monrovia, but SD is also where former M-Town star Jesse Canada’s father played.
Stay thirsty my friends…
