Schurr Slams Montebello; Playoffs Next

(Montebello) – Eric Perez and Abel Troncozo combined for 347 yards and four touchdowns to lead Schurr to a 28-7 win over Montebello Friday night at Ken Davis Field.

Marcus Portillo’s 47 ayrd run set up a 30 yard field goal attempt on Montebello’s first drive but the kick sailed wide left.

The Spartans first score came on a 40 yard Perez run late in the first quarter.

Later in the quarter, Troncozo capped a long drive with a 14 yard run to paydirt for a 14-0 lead.

Perez crossed the goal line from three yards out to finish a 70 yard drive for a 21-0 advantage.

M0ntebello finally got on the board midway through the fourth quarter when Matt Saenz found Michael Juarez in the back of the endzone making it 21-7.

The Spartans then iced it when Troncozo scored his second touchdown of the game late in the fourth.

Schurr’s defense had eight sacks including three by Sal Chavez. Perez ran for 206 yards and two touchdowns while Troncozo ran for 141 yards and two scores.

The Oilers offense was led by Saenz who completed 14 0f 20 for for 168 yards and a touchdown. Simeon Poggi picked off a pass for Montebello on defense.

Both Schurr (4-6, 3-2) and Montebello (6-4, 3-2) will get in the playoffs as second and third place teams respectively in the Almont. The Mid-Valley Division brackets come out on Sunday.
