Crusaders Cruise past Minutemen

(Eagle Rock) –  Johnny Amodeo carried the ball 29 times for 314 yards and four touchdowns in Village Christian’s 36-0 over Maranatha Friday night at Occidental’s Paterson Field.

Passing the ball for the Crusaders was not effective throughout the game, but Amodeo and Roman Arteaga provided enough offense to keep the Minutemen off the field. Both Amodeo and Arteaga combine for 424 and five touchdowns.

Amodeo gained 226-yards and scored two touchdowns in the first half alone. His first touchdown came in the first when he plowed his way from seven out. He scored again in the second but this time he out ran the defense from 72-yards out.

Before the half, Arteaga added a score of his own when he zig-zagged his way to the end zone from 41-yards out.
At the half, the Crusaders were up 21-0

“We’re a power football team,” said head coach Jay Schroeder. “We got two big backs in Amodeo and Arteaga and were going to let them do their thing.”

Defensively for Village Christian, they created problems for Eli Snyder and the Minutemen offense. The Crusaders sacked Snyder six times and picked off two of his passes.
Omar Younger carried the load for the Minutemen. He carried the ball 16 times for 93-yards.

With the win, the Crusaders will enter the playoffs as a #2 seed in the Olympic League.

“I think we feel good about our situation and where we are. We’ve told the kids the last two weeks that its not about who we play but it’s about us coming out and imposing our will and play the game,” said Schroeder.
