A 14-7 halftime lead by Bishop Montgomery evaporated as Village Christian took advantage of two costly turnovers to advance to the quarterfinals of the CIF Southern Section’s Northwest Division Playoffs with a 38-21 win Friday night at Bishop Montgomery’s Knight Field.
The Crusaders’ John Amodeo powered the ground game, racking up 218 yards on 33 carries and scored four times in the game.The Knights’ leading rusher Michael Turner was lost to an ankle injury which hampered the Knights’ ground game. Turner had only 36 yards on four carries when he was knocked out of the game. However, his longest carry was a 37-yard run on a fake punt that set up the Knights’ first score of the game in the first.
The Crusaders will return to Village Christian to host the Bishop Diego Cardinals. The Cardinals advanced to the quarterfinals with a 43-9 road victory over South Torrance at Spartan Stadium.
