Downey 55 Rowland 21

The Vikings (8-3) manhandled the visiting Raiders (7-4) as sophomore running back Justin Huff scored three times to advance to the quarterfinals of the CIF Southern Section’s Southeast Division playoffs with a 55-21 win Friday night at Downey High’s Viking Stadium.

Huff needed only 15 carries to earn 154 yards on the night while teammate Jeremy Villa scored twice, a 95-yard kickoff return and a 22-yard pass from quarterback Jorge Reyna in the win. Reyna had a combined 180 yards of offense, 112 in passing on six completions and two scores and 68 yards of rushing and a 41-yard rushing score.

The Vikings got on the board twice in the first on two shanked punts by the Raiders., taking a 14-0 lead after one quarter. They would take a 21-0 lead into the half, then in the third, broke it open. Villa’s kickoff return came after Rowland’s first score in the third, but by then the Vikings had opened the flood gates and iced the victory.

The Vikings will travel to Excelsior Adult School on Friday night where they will face Norwalk. The Lancers advanced Friday night by knocking off the Burbank Bulldogs, 49-14 at John Burroughs High.
