A second-half scoring explosion powered Sierra Canyon to a 20-7 win over Northview to advance tot he quarterfinals of the CIS Southern Section’s Mid-Valley Division Playoffs Friday night at Granada Hills High School.
The Trailblazers (10-1) opened the scoring after a scoreless first half. quarterback Andre Nunez, who threw for 163 yards, threw two touchdowns, and scored on a 40-yard rush. Nunez hit Brandyn Lee for a 27-yard score in the third to put the Trailblazers up 13-0 at the end of the third.
In the fourth, the Vikings (7-4) broke up erased part of the 20-0 Trailblazer lead on Victor Garcia’s one-yard run with 4:09 left in the game. Garcia threw for 83 yards on 11 completions, while Javon Taylor led the Viking ground game with 90 yards on 22 carries.
The Trailblazers will head to Arroyo High’s B.L. Bergstrom Stadium to take on the Knights. The Knights advanced to the quarterfinals with a 42-14 road victory over the Bell Gardens Lancers Friday night at Bell Garden’s Lancers Stadium.
