The Dons (6-5) erased a 7-0 halftime deficit as they advanced to the quarterfinals of the CIF Southern Section’s Southeast Division playoffs by knocking off the Buccaneers (5-5) with a 14-7 upset Friday night at Bellflower’s Ron Yary Stadium.
The Buccaneers’ leading rushing Ryan Hundley, who amassed 1,700 yards on the ground in the regular season, was hobbled by the Dons’ rush defense, earning only 89 yards on 18 carries on the night, allowing only a first-half touchdown, his third-lowest rushing output of his senior season. Hundley’s touchdown gave the Buccaneers a 7-0 halftime lead, but the rushing duo of Joshua Wilkinson and Eric Black, combined for 169 yards and two touchdowns, both by Wilkinson in the third quarter.
On their first drive of the third quarter, Wilkinson drove in from a yard out to cap a 60-yard drive, however the point after attempt was blocked, putting the Dons down 7-6.
