1. Les Miles signs a new seven-year contract with LSU ending speculation that he will leave for Arkansas.
2. UCLA center Josh Smith leaves the school for personal reasons. He is the second player to leave the team in the last week, joining Tyler Lamb who announced he was transferring Sunday.
3. Derek Fisher signs with the Dallas Mavericks.
4. Free agent outfielder B.J. Upton signs a five-year $75.25 million deal with the Atlanta Braves.
5. When UCLA and Stanford meet Friday it will be the first time since 1935 that two major college teams will play each other in consecutive games in the same season.
6. The Angels sign 6’6” reliever Ryan Madson who is just eight months removed from Tommy John surgery. Madson saved 32 games for the Phillies in 2011.
7. In 1956 Downey and Anaheim battled to a 13-13 tie in the LA Memorial Coliseum. The game drew a crowd of 41,383 which is the all time attendance record for a CIF Final.
8. Vin Scully turns 85 today.
