            Downey 35    Santa Fe 3

            Downey 28     Domniguez 12

Last Friday La Serna dispatched of West Covina and exacted their revenge for last year’s loss in the Southeast Division final while Downey spin cycled Santa Fe right out of the playoffs.

The Lancers have had their doubters (including some of us at the Mid) all season long and all they have done is keep winning. 64 kids led by Frankie Palmer that don’t quit even when faced with adversity.

Downey has had a couple of big wins in the post season against Rowland and most notably against Norwalk but have a head scratching loss against Fountain Valley and a  heart breaker against Paramount.

The Viking offense goes through and on the legs of Justin Huff. If Marlon Duenas and Mark Kozhaya and the rest of the o-line bubbas can control the line of scrimmage, Downey can control the clock and keep the Lancers offense on the sideline.

Robert Salazar and Tristan Esparza lead the Viking “bad dudes” on a defense that has registered 23 sacks and charged with stopping Palmer and company.

Palmer is as cool as the other side of the pillow under pressure. The junior trigger man (yes, he will be back next year) can throw, run and will his team to victories. He hasn’t seen a defense that will shake his confidence. Luke Gonzales does most of the damage on the ground but bruiser Nick McCarty and Gio Long gives the Lancers other weapons to be concerned with. Matthew Rosales is Palmer’s favorite target when the Lancers go to the air.

Michael Dingillo leads the Lancer defense that will be charged with corralling Huff and Viking quarterback Jorge Reyna who has almost rushed for a 1000 yards himself.

Looking at their previous meetings these two teams appear to be as evenly matched as you can get in a final. They say defense wins championship (and these are two of the best) and it’s extremely difficult to beat a team twice in one season.

Vikings avenge the heartbreaker from earlier in the season.

Downey 35 La Serna 28
