(El Monte)- Bassett (3-1) started fast and finished with a 28-10 victory over Mountain View (0-4) on Friday night.

Olympian quarterback Robert Rodriguez opened things with a 45-yard touchdown pass to Michael Pena, but the conversion was missed.

After having a kick-off return for a touchdown called back, Mt. View responded with a 55-yard touchdown pass from Jason Cordero to Jesus Ordaz. Ordaz would add the extra-point and the Vikes had a 7-6 lead.

In the second quarter Bassett’s Rodriguez went 19-yards to Rene Payan and recaptured the lead at 14-7 after the quarterback converted the deuce.

Rodriguez later scored on a one-yard run just before the half to make it 20-7.

In the third the Vikings Ordaz kicked a 32-yard field goal to cut the lead to 20-10

The Olympians Andrew Varela closed out the scoring in the fourth with a three-yard run. On the two-point attempt Jacob Flores, on a halfback option, hit Roy Noriega to seal the deal.

“The team is young, they did the best they could,” said Mt. View HC James Wilson. “But the breaks went against them tonight.”
