Justin Huff is only a sophomore and he was already named our “newcomer” of the year. But when you score 26 touchdowns and run for more than 2300 yards it’s hard to be ignored.
Most Valuable Player is different from Player of the Year in the sense that the team would be hard pressed to have the success it had without that particular player. An MVP is the most valuable to the success and fortunes of the team. Southeast Division champion Downey had a great season – one that will be remembered for decades to come. But without Huff, the Vikings wouldn’t have made it that far.
Huff rushed for 2364 yards and scored 24 touchdowns, an average of 9.85 yards per carry. He had 240 carries, which was nearly half of the team’s 501 total carries. He averaged 181 yards per game on the ground.
Huff also was second on the team in receptions with 24 and third in receiving yards with 373 yards while scoring two more touchdowns. He had 2737 yards combined. He scored 26 of the team’s 57 touchdowns.
He was held to 100 yards just once – 92 against Paramount on October 19- and he rushed for 200 yards or more on four separate occasions. You want a big game performer? Huff averaged 206 yards per game in the four game playoff run including 268 against Santa Fe in the semi finals and 224 against La Serna in the Southeast Final.
The only question now is what will he do for an encore in 2013 . For 2012, Justin Huff is our Southeast Division MVP.
