La Canada girls advance.

La Canada girls advance.

“I don’t discuss basketball. I dictate basketball. I’m not interested in philosophy classes.”—Al McGuire

Kick it!

“It was a dagger.”—Spartan Nation tweeted to me about Sara Borland’s three pointer at the buzzer that gave La Canada a 52-49 victory over Eagle Rock on Wednesday night in the first round of the state tournament.

(Borland finished with 19 points, Courtney Chen added 15 points and Keilee Bessho had 10 points)

Now think if I had gone to that game? Would my body have ever been found if things turned out differently?

I believe if your first name is Marcus you have an advantage in life. Seriously, what’s cooler Herman or Marcus? Bill or Marcus? Joe or Marcus? So I’m optimistic about Diamond Bar’s hiring of Marcus Hughes.

I can see the headline now. “Hughes Corporation Takes Down Bonita…”

(That’s bad. Well all the jokes can’t be good, you have to expect that once in a while.)

First Add new San Gabriel HC Joe Ledesma: The fans love him already.

Note to Bobby Knight: Have you seen the amount of money in these NFL contracts that is being guaranteed? Even though he was a Dallas Cowboy I respected DeMarcus Ware, great player, but he’s a great player with a lot of mileage. The Broncos guaranteed 20-million of his 30-million dollar contract. They guaranteed 26-million of Aquib Talib’s contract.

New England seems to have a thing for expensive Tampa Bay cornerbacks.

Even with Al Davis gone, it’s nice to know things stay the same for the Oakland Raiders.  Rodger Saffold, who just inked to a 42.5 million dollar contract with the team, failed his physical and his contract was voided.

If they’re going to pay you a ton of bread, then you most likely are worth a ton of bread. I can see why Golden Tate would leave Seattle for bigger payday in Detroit even though it looks like the Seahawks will be front runners to repeat as Super Bowl champions. I can see why Josh McCown would sign a two-year $10,000,000 contract with Tampa Bay.

In football you have to get the payday while you can.

Question: Is one of the hardest things in life coming to the realization of what you are and what you are not? Does Golden Tate realize he’s not a number one receiver and that his presence with the Lions won’t really determine whether or not his team goes to the playoffs?

After twelve years, is Josh McCown suddenly a starting quarterback in the NFL? He had a great half season for the Bears but when you are throwing to Brandon Marshall, Alshon Jeffrey, Matt Forte, and even Martellus Bennett life is good.

And Jay Cutler is susceptible to injury, McCown was in a good spot to come in a and play with a talented team around him. Instead he signed with Tampa Bay, a graveyard for quarterbacks since Doug Williams left to join the Oklahoma Outlaws 30 years ago.

I understand inking for the dough, but career wise, legacy wise, wouldn’t Tate and McCown been better served staying put?

Last Add San Gabriel HC Joe Ledesma: They hate him already.

Regards:

In regards to “Survivor”: Former Portland Trailblazer Cliff Robinson can still fill it up.

In regards to Chicago Bears RB Matt Forte: Dude only makes $1,700,000 per season.

In regards to Kobe Bryant being upset with Lakers management: Dude, you signed the $30-million deal.

In regards to NFL QB Kevin Kolb: Dude, retire.

In regards to Manny Ramirez: He admits he used PEDs

The Dude abides…
