“You don’t kiss the cheerleaders and shake the hands of the parents until the game is over.”—Al McGuire

Kick it!

Oh, I’ve always been a Cal Poly San Luis Obispo fan.

The St. Baldricks Foundation is a local southern California group funding cancer research for processes showing promise of a cure! Children should not have to endure cancer and have their childhood taken away!  The kids afflicted are the heroes, our part is easy as we ONLY have to get a haircut. Kids with cancer diagnosis have no choices. They are having to be brave to stare down cancer for months or even years. We want those years to be filled with kid things — not treatments, surgeries and therapies! Go to www.stbaldricks.org to make a donation.

Scratch Aroldis Chapman from your fantasy baseball draft que.

Last Add Cal Poly: A Wikipedia search under notable alumni lists no one for basketball. It’s not called SLO for nothing.

Drafting Johnny Manziel, Teddy Bridgewater, and Blake Bortles will be a roll of the dice, but if I had to dance with one of them it would be Bortles. Recent mock drafts have the Jacksonville Jaguars taking Bridgewater with the third overall pick. Big mistake.

I think United States Presidents should take any vacation they want because they never really leave the job. It’s cool for them to play golf if they and to fill out their NCAA brackets. …But unless everything is tranquil, and it seldom is, the optics of appearing on sports shows to talk about their bracket picks is plain stupid.

Every day is somebody’s birthday…You acknowledge it and move on…But having seen Arroyo’s Anthony Olivas start at tailback for three years and knowing today he turns 29 reminds me of that special time in my life…the time before I needed glasses to read.

Having seen Paul Uhl block for Temple City’s Wagner brothers (Herman & Antonio) and knowing today he turns 30 makes me feel as old as Peterson.

What’s more important? Making two Pro Bowls or winning a playoff game? Dan Patrick is a smart guy, but have you ever noticed that some of the dumbest people on the planet are the smart guys? Stephen King said the smartest people he knows are, intellectually, the most lazy.

Patrick on his show this morning was quoting Merril Hoge’s opinion on Tim Tebow and that he couldn’t play. Patrick said everybody knew Tebow couldn’t play. He repeated what Hoge said about Vince Young not being able to play. Patrick said that Hoge was wrong because Young could play and made two Pro Bowls. That he was better than Tebow.

Either Patrick is blissfully ignorant or willingly lazy about reality. Tebow took a 1-4 team to the playoffs and won. Young did nothing but squander his dough and go bankrupt.

Making a Pro Bowl in the NFL is almost the equivalent of making All-League in area football.

I hate getting on this again because Tim Tebow is not a great quarterback, then again we’ll never find out. I’m not saying he belongs in the Hall of Fame. All Tebow did was win in the NFL, and win a playoff game.

And forget about Tebow, Tebow is yesterday’s news. The point here is it seems all of the national sports media has been issued a memo from the Ministry of Truth about what they need to say and what they need to share. It could be a political agenda, it could be a purely CYA (we don’t want protests or to lose sponsors) agenda.

If you listen, and not many do these days, Patrick, Colin Cowherd, Petros & Money, Jim Rome, and the untalented Jay Mohr come off like they are giving unique insight…but on every single issue grazing the cultural landscape they agree. Right or wrong, they all think alike. Does it concern you at all?

Can it be boiled down to the real radical these days is the one that doesn’t ink up or have any piercings? If you want to get inked, get inked. If you want to put holes in your skin, put holes your skin that’s not the question here. The question here is group think.

Oh and before you come after me…I believe the church is guilty of this as well in regards to the issues it’s facing and insecurities about wanting to be liked and loved.

Regards:

In regards to player evaluation: “I trust the film, not the underwear olympics.”—ESPN analyst former NFL fullback Merril Hoge.

In regards to Rex Chapman being a Kentucky legend: Does two seasons, no titles, make you a legend?

In regards to Montebello’s Isaac Mendibles: I’m a believer.

In regards to Riley Saxon: He’s a longtime assistant, JV HC, quarterback, Occidental grad, who currently teaches on the Temple City campus.

In regards to Alhambra football: “It’s 6:A.M. on March 20th, 2014 and all is well!”
