Representatives from Mt. SAC area schools met Friday to discuss and decide on releaguing for the years 2014-2016. A proposal submitted by Azusa, Chino and the Baseline League ultimately won over five other proposals.
Damien and St. Lucy’s were originally slated to be placed in the Parochial Leagues and out of the Mt. SAC area but the two schools won an arbitration case against the CIF Southern Section to remain in the Mt. SAC area leagues. As a result the process was started all over again with different proposals being submitted.
Some of the changes were a surprise as schools like Baldwin Park, Rowland, Chino, La Puente and Pomona among others will be moved. Also the Miramonte League has been reestablished with different teams.
“It doesn’t really matter to me. Everyone wants to dominate their league but doesn’t want to compete. I like the competition. Charter Oak coming in will make our league (Hacienda) very tough in football,” said West Covina HC Mike Maggiore. “It should be fun week to week. I’m really more concerned with us than who we play.”
New Baldwin Park head coach Daniel Al-gattas had similar thoughts. “I’m fired up for any league we’re in. I just love the thrill of the hunt. Initially our young men were disappointed because they wanted another shot at their traditional rivals in the Valle Vista, but I’m new and I just want us to play the best we can each week. I’m just really excited about our team right now,” Al-gattas said.

Hacienda: Diamond Ranch, Los Altos, West Covina, Walnut, Charter Oak, Chino.
Valle Vista: Nogales, Covina, Northview, San Dimas, Wilson, Rowland.
Montview: Azusa, Duarte, Gladstone, Workman, Sierra Vista, Baldwin Park.
Miramonte: Bassett, Edgewood, Ganesha, La Puente, Garey, Pomona.
Baseline: Chino Hills, Damien, St. Lucy’s, Etiwanda, Los Osos, Rancho Cucamonga, Upland.
Palomares: Ayala, Bonita, Claremont, Diamond Bar, Glendora, South Hills.
Mt. Baldy: Alta Loma, Chaffey, Colony, Don Lugo, Montclair, Ontario.
