(Los Altos HS) – South Hills, tested in the first half by a well prepared Los Altos squad parlayed a safety and four unanswered touchdowns into a 29-7 win Friday night in nonleague action.
Justin Zamano (5-17 for 71 yards and two interceptions) capped a grueling six minute, 16 play, 78 yard drive with a 17 yard draw through the pylons with 4:36 left in the first quarter for a 7-0 LA lead.
Vincent Hernandez and Geoffrey Vaughns each walked into Zamano’s path for interceptions; the latter having denied him a touchdown pass in the end zone. Ify Umodu hauled in a Jacob Shirley pass 45 yards up center as the Huskies crossed Conqueror turf on the half’s last drive. But a field goal scramble by Andrew Roddy came up short as time expired.
A wild snap on a punt attempt sailed out of the end zone to give South Hills a safety, trimming Los Altos’ lead to a rare 7-2 baseball margin with 4:40 to go. Just 15 ticks later, the safety kickoff was received at the 24 by Neiko Padilla who broke loose the entire 76 yards to score, inching the Huskies ahead 8-7.
Jamel Hart, who carried the rock 14 times for 68 yards and a touchdown, scored from two yards out just 1:50 into the fourth to make it 15-7.
Shirley delivered the knockout punch in the last four minutes as he threw a 35 yard touchdown pass to Umodu. Also Isaic Ramirez rushed in from a yard out for the final points.
