Defense was the name of the game for the West

(Cerritos) – The West defense kept the East out of the endzone and shut them out completely in the second half and went on to win the 605 All-Star Game 12-3 Friday night at Cerritos College. The West All-Stars didn’t score themselves through the first three quarters but rallied for 12 in the final frame to secure the win.

The only touchdown of the game came with 10:36 left in the fourth when Narbonne quarterback Eban Jackson hit Garfield’s Ty’Jon Delancey in the corner of the endzone to give the West a 7-3 advantage. The West D made it stand up the rest of the way.

***The West marched deep into East territory on its first two possessions but was thwarted on an an interception in the endzone and a missed field goal.

***East kicker Jason Sanders also missed two field goals but booted a 31 yarder in the second quarter for the Easts’ only points.

***Norwalk’s Rashaad Penny had only five touches for the East with two carries for 31 yards and three receptions for 90 yards.

***La Serna’s Frankie Palmer, in his last game as a high school player, completed three of nine for 44 yards and ran for nine yards on two carries.

***Jackson was nine for 13 for 136 yards and a touchdown for the West. Bellflower’s Andrew Gose caught three balls for 57 yards.

***The West increased the lead to 9-3 in the fourth when the East center snapped the ball over the head of the punter and into the endzone resulting in a safety.

***There were three turnovers in all – two by the West and one by the East.

***Alfredo Solis of Paramount kicked a 37 yard field goal with four seconds left to account for the final score.

***West Assistant Coach Peter Gonzalez celebrated not only the victory but also his birthday.

***The West bounced back from a 28-20 overtime loss last year but leads the series all-time 18-8-1.
