(El Monte)- Matt Fregoso’s five touchdowns led the Rosemead Panthers to a dominating 52-20 win over the El Monte Lions Friday night.
El Monte tried to get on the board first but kicker Juan Delgado missed a 30 yard field goal. Following the miss Rosemead pounded the ball down field and Fregoso finished it off with a 9-yard run, with 1:31 left in the first.
At the beginning of the second quarter Fregoso got into the end zone again on a 51-yard touchdown run to make it 14-0 after a Chris Cancino extra point.
Manuel Santa Cruz cut the lead in half when he found Eddie Landeros on a 27-yard touchdown pass to make it 14-7, 8:45 in the second.
Fregoso open the game wide open with a 60-yard run and 79-yard punt return for scores to make it 28-7.
Santa Cruz found Landeros again for the Lions on an 11-yard pass, at 3:57 in the second.
Rosemead scored two more times before the half when Matt Macias hit Luis Diaz (34 yards) and Shane Ahhing (19 yards) to make it 42-14.
Fregoso got in the end zone for the fifth time on a 31-yard run, 7:36 in the third to make it 49-14.
Cancino made a 20 yard field goal in the fourth after missing one in the second to put up the Panthers 52-14.
El Monte got on the board again late in the game when Santa Cruz threw his third touchdown pass of the night when he got a nice catch from Memo Silva the extra was missed to make it 52-20.
Rosemead’s defense was led by Oscar Higareda and Greg Parham who each had an interception, Fregoso had five tackles and two sacks. Eddie Solario had five tackles and a sack.
Lions go to View next week in the battle of two winless teams. The Panthers will travel to Gabrielino in week 10.
