The late great trainer Emmanuel Steward often stated that people want to see knockouts and with it fame will follow. Steward recalled his own personal experience as a fan.

“I remember in the late ’80’s how I’d run to see Tyson knock out somebody on HBO. It didn’t make any difference who it was — Pinklon Thomas, Tyrell Biggs, Tony Tubbs. I just wanted to see him knock somebody out.”

Gennady Golovkin hopes this will become a self-fulfilling prophecy. Golovkin is riding a 16 fight knockout streak in Saturday night’s fight against Australia’s Daniel Geale, who looks to be Triple G’s toughest fight to date. Each win seems to generate further hype because each has come in dominate fashion. To further validate his hype each opponent post fight has confirmed that Golovkin is as good as advertised.

Golovkin is starting to develop an aurora, in which opponents may beat before they walk into the ring. But this hasn’t seemed to faze Geale; in an article earlier this week with ESPN’s Dan Rafael Geale stated “I’ve been watching his fights. He does well with the guys they put in front of him. He does what he has to do. He’s been knocking a lot of guys out but I don’t think he’s fought too many guys like me before. That’s what excites me. I’m going to take him places he hasn’t been before and I guess show him something different, like what it’s like to go late into a fight. I’ve been in lots of hard 12-round fights against great fighters, and I’m going to take him to that place…but you can’t make him a lot bigger than what he is. He’s done good. But now I’m going to show that he’s not invincible.”

In the search for the next great American heavyweight Bryant Jennings will try to inject some interest back in to an inept American heavyweight landscape. Jennings will face Cuban Mike Perez in an elimination fight that will determine the mandatory challenger of the fall fight between WBC title titleholder Bermane Stiverne and Deontay Wilder. The two fighters are some of the smaller more active heavyweights which should make for an entertaining fight.

Prediction: Golovkin TKO rd. 10. Mike Perez by 12 rd. split decision
