In a fight marred with point deductions and restlessness from both fighters Brandon Rios came away with a ninth round disqualification win over Diego Chaves Saturday night in Las Vegas. The fight started strong with both fighter throwing punches with bad intentions.

In to the third Chaves seemed content to fire from the outside, less willing to engage in a phone booth fight with Rios. The next few rounds ensued with each fighter trading hard shots with Rios getting the best on inside and Chaves doing his best work from the outside. After repeated warnings the fight ended on what seemed to be a glove/thumb to the face of Rios.

Sergey Kovalev got up from an off balance flash knockdown to stop Blake Caparello in the second round. This now finalized a November showdown with Bernard Hopkins.

Jesse Vargas defended his title for the first time via a twelfth round unanimous decision. Vargas looked good, threw in combination and boxed well from the outside to outclass Novikov.
