Scoreboard (9/4/2014): Week One

Alhambra fans remember better times than these. Eddie Herrera and Josh Mendoza circa 2011

Mid-Valley Division
Northview 38 Montebello 6
It wasn’t pretty, but in the end two things are true. Northview is 2-0 and the Oilers are a disappointing 0-2.

Northwest Division
Whittier Christian 36 Brethren Christian 33
The Heralds jumped to a lead and then found themselves down 33-28 before rallying for the win…on defense! Nick Watase scored on a 4-yard run and adds the 2-point conversion, but BC responds. Reaching Whittier Christian’27 with 1:14 to play. They get inside the Heralds 1-yard line with eight seconds left but no timeouts.
WC was powered by the strong running of Watase (156 yards on 20 carries, 2 Tds) and Justin Osborn (150 yards-16 carries, Td). Quarterback Cooper Hughes went 8 of 15 with a touchdown, he also picked off a BC pass in end zone with five minutes to play. The Heralds led 28-14 at the half.

Southeast Division
La Serna 42 Los Osos 26
It seems rumors of the Lancers demise have been greatly exaggerated. La Serna broke open a 14-14 contest late in the second half and never looked back. The numbers on quarterback Enrique Pacheco are nearly staggering. The first year starter threw for nearly 300 yards and four touchdowns while completing 23 of 26 passes. Both schools are now 1-1.
Glenn 7 Pioneer 3
The Eagles snap a 17-game losing streak on Martin Sanchez’s 4-yard run with ten seconds left in the game. Former Norwalk Lancer Jacob Carr made a key catch on the game winning drive.

Central Division
Ayala 37 El Dorado 7

Inter-Divisional
La Canada 23 Alhambra 7
The Ramsey Lambert era is off to a 2-0 start. The Moors James Giambalvo returned an interception 22-yards for  a touchdown to give his team a 7-0 lead that held until the third quarter. The Spartans got a touchdown from Ryan Breneman and Anthony Connell added two more to give LC the win. Michael Selsor, who booted the game winner against Verbum Dei last wee, added a late 44-yard field goal.
