We’re still going to dance with Maranatha, but any little stumble, including a “bad win” could cause them to fall. We are falling for Nipomo, Mission Prep has climbed into the Top Ten, but the dark horse is Valley Christian. “They really know what they are doing,” said one veteran Olympic League coach.

1.) Maranatha Minutemen, 2-0 (Olympic League): Undefeated, but Nipomo is pressing hard.

2.) Nipomo Titans, 1-1 (Northern League): Nearly upset Lompoc, this might be the team everyone fears in November.

3.) Big Bear Bears, 2-0 (De Anza League): Haven’t played anybody great, but haven’t taken any prisoners either.

4.) Valley Christian Crusaders, 2-0 (Olympic League): Pounding the ball with Jonathan Nicholson.

5.) Mission Prep Royals, 1-1 (Northern League): We know they can run with Dyllan Smiley, but can they develop a consistent passing game.

6.) Rio Hondo Prep Kares, 1-1 (Prep League): Depth, depth, and, again, depth will determine the Kares season. They are fun to watch.

7.) Village Christian Crusaders, 2-0 (Olympic League): Quarterback Jesse Hanckel has best fastball in the Northwest.

8.) Arrowhead Christian Eagles, 2-0 (Ambassador League): Bradley Mowbray has thrown six touchdown passes, Noah Mowbray has rushed for three touchdowns. Isaac Mowbray has caught a touchdown pass and made seven tackles. John Mowbray plays in the trenches.

9.) Cantwell Cardinals, 1-0 (South Catholic League): Shutout Western Christian, but get El Segundo this week and old MVS friend Lars Nootbaar.

10.) Aquinas Falcons, 2-0 (Ambassador League): Just need to beat better teams. Have not allowed a point this season.

Others (in no order): Whittier Christian, 2-0*: Now 0-2 because of ineligible player.
Desert Mirage, 2-0: Take nothing away from the Rams fast start.
Pasadena Poly, 2-0: They’ve beaten Keppel and Bosco Tech.
St. Bernard, 2-0: We like Steven Chavez at quarterback.
Templeton, 1-1: If the Eagles beat Santa Paula we’ll have something to talk about.
