(Pasadena)— The Bishop Diego Cardinals scored 21 unanswered points in the second half to rout the La Salle Lancers, 38-11, Friday night at Kohorst Field. 

The Cardinals jumped to a quick 17-0 lead before intermission. Tailbacks Abel Gonzalez, and Daniel Molina carried combined for 111-yards on just 11 carries. Molina scored the teams first touchdown from 11-yards and fullback Mathew Shortwell stomped his way for six from 61-yards out.

La Salle made a late surge to pull within six, 17-11, when punter Brett Wheat connected with Isiah Spencer on a fake punt for 43-yards. Running back David La Salle scored the Lancers one and only touchdown with 47 seconds left in the half.

“We just told our kids to relax,” said Bishop Diego HC Tom Crawford after the Lancers closed the gap.

Alvoid Bennet returned the second half kickoff 100-yards putting the Cards up 24-11. And from there, the Cardinals added two more scores with Gonzalez and John Harris.
