(Montebello) The Paraclete Spirits sprinted out to a 29-0 first half lead and cruised to a 43-0 win over the Montebello Oilers Friday night.

Melquis Stovall, Treyvon Green and KJ Latu all scored touchdowns for the Spirits who controlled the ball and the game from their first drive to the final horn ending the game.

On the other side the Oilers had trouble moving the ball against a stingy Paraclete defense gaining only one first down on five drives in the first half.

*** Lightning struck on the Spirits first play from scrimmage when Stovall caught a pass in the slot from David Schmucker reversed back across field turned the corner and outraced the Oilers to paydirt.

*** Montebello’s longest play of the night was a 19-yard pass from back-up quarterback Eric Bruesch to Aaron Jones late in the fourth quarter.

*** Junior quarterback Schmucker completed seven of 13 passes for 134-yards and two scores.

*** Issac Mendibles got the bulk of the work for the Oilers gaining 53 tough yards on 17 carries.

*** Stovall accounted for 154-yards from scrimmage, 66 on the ground and 88 through the air.

*** The Spirit defense held Montebello to a total of 75 yards on offense and only two first downs.

*** The only scoring opportunity for the Oilers came midway through the second period. A five play drive stalled at the Paraclete 33. Enrique Lozano came on an attempted a 50-yard field goal that fell short.

*** The Spirits final score on the evening was set up by a Malik Wilmore interception of Angel Hernandez at his own 45 which he returned to the Montebello 17.

*** The bubbas up front for the Oilers were LT Christopher Cobos, LG Bryan Velasquez, C Carlos Gomez, RG Daniel Gardea, RT Luis Lopez.

*** Opening the holes for Stovall and company were LT George Clifford LG Robert Norris, C Adam Silverman, RG Niko Falato, RT Taylor Tuiasosopo.
