1. The Kansas City Royals win 2-1 to complete a sweep of Baltimore and advance to the World Series for the first time since 1985.

2. Crescenta Valley is 14-2 over the last two years.

3. Miami Dolphins running back Knowshon Moreno is out for the year with a torn ACL.

4. The Giants beat the Cardinals 6-4 to take a 3-1 lead in the NLCS.

5. The Dodgers hire Andrew Friedman (37) as President of baseball operations. Ned Colletti will stay with the Dodgers in an advisory role.

6. Former USC receiver Victor Blackwell faces charges of domestic violence, vandalism and battery of a police officer after being arrested last Wednesday.

7. “We found the mistake on Monday after Rowland and self reported the error to Rob Wigod on Tuesday. Because of that and the corrections we made, with the assistance of CIF, the issue ends there. It has no bearing on what happens in league. It sucks, but we needed to own it and move on.”- Arroyo HC Jim Singiser on forfeiting three non-league games due to an ineligible player.

8. UCLA officials are reporting that Pauley Pavilion will be completely refurbished after the flood in July and ready for an October 31 exhibition game against Azusa Pacific.

9. Happy Birthday to former Anaheim Might Ducks star Paul Kariya who turns 40 today.

10. On this date in 2004 the New York Yankees pounded the Boston Red Sox 19-8 to take a 3-0 lead in the ALCS. The Red Sox went on to become the first major league team ever to come back from a 3 games to none deficit and win the series. They also won the World Series.
