The word from Azusa is McDade, McROCKS!

The word from Azusa is McDade, McROCKS!

Good Evening!

Winrow!

From South to South: Former Southman Neiko Padilla, now playing for South Hills, picked off a pass and returned it for a touchdown last night…

Crescenta Valley like so many schools (Bell Gardens, Schurr, D-Ranch, Bonita, Burroughs, Burbank) falls into the coverage creases of traditional papers like the Star-Trib…So they get robbed of appropriate praise…but after graduating a ton of talent last year, including quarterback Karsen Reedy, the Falcons put together a heck of a year.

Props to Kyle Cota for his season…

No doubt disappointed by its loss to a powerful South Hills squad, the future looks really good for CV in what is trending into a very powerful Pacific League.

Cal beat Burbank, straight up, but if the Bulldogs and the Bulldog faithful were lacking a little mojo then they need to look no further than the creepy Greenpeacers haunting the entrances of their supermarkets…It just puts out a bad vibe that effects the whole community…

Would it be an understatement to say South Hills Geoffrey Vaughns has elevated his game this season?

Great season, still, and Adam Colman is back for another season.

The Condors, using a little of the Mid Valley Karma, and a lot of Terris Jones…along with  strong offensive line, plus Jorge Rodriguez on defense, have qualified for the semifinals for the third time this decade (2000, 2007, & 2009).

One year ago tonight Max Ruckle carried the ball 34 times for 132-yards, Gianni Bruno-Lopez caught five passes for 105-yards and a touchdown in Temple City’s 17-0 second round victory over Azusa.

Last night Azusa advanced to the semis, for the first time in school history, with a dramatic 27-24 victory over San Marino… However, this is not the first time the Aztecs have won back to back playoff games.

In 1975 on November 21 Azusa beat El Cajon 32-20 in the first round. In round two, played at home on this night, November 28, the Aztecs beat Neff 29-21 thanks to quarterback Richard Nyden’s three touchdown passes (and two 2-pointers). Two wins in two rounds, advance to the semifinals correct?

Nope.

The CIF playoffs in 1975 was a five round affair, meaning you had to win three to get to the semis and four to get to the finals. The Azusa run ended the following week when future NFL kicker Todd Peterson booted a 35-yard field goal in the final seconds to give El Dorado a 16-13 victory over the previously unbeaten Aztecs.

Next week’s opponent San Dimas is making its fourth final four appearance (1976, 1985, & 1999)…In 1976, another five round tournament, San Dimas won three straight (over Indio, Northview, & Agoura) before falling in the semis on the road to Antelope Valley 26-13 in 28 degree weather. That Saints squad was led by quarterback Don Hargett and Hacienda League Defensive Player of the Year, defensive tackle, Sonny LaFargue.

San Dimas and Azusa first met in 1981 and they have not played since 1999…The Saints lead the series 9-5.

Funny how Josh Lowden always finds the camera…He also is demanding Mid Valley love for M-Town defenders Kizz Prusia and Adrian Velasco…

Charter Oak wants to know where the love is…It’s all there…but you can’t give either Villathedevil or I heat after nearly being knocked out by Muir… I’m ready to lavish love on the Charger Nation…but is it possible for Don Lou Farrar and family to bring in some CO gear? A jersey, lid, practice tee…just make it a double X…

Charger Love: I think anybody making an argument against A.J. Powell in an all league, all newspaper, all website, all CIF, and even as a college player situation/equation is nuts…

I said this on the show, but when we were on the Monrovia sideline last night the subject of Nick Bueno and Joisah Thropay came up. I mentioned if Thropay, who was supposed to be the next best thing at quarterback for the ‘Cats, had not transfered out after his freshman season would we know about Bueno…

“Thropay is a nice kid,” the comment came from someone associated with Monrovia High School. “But Bueno is such a competitor he would still be the starter.”

Wise guy critiques of Bueno not being a good quarterback are getting really stale…especially in light of back to back final four appearances…

So does anybody consider San Dimas a physical team now…?

Last Add Azusa: How about respecting Joe Scherf and the Aztecs now? Scherf in two seasons is 21-3 overall, he’s never lost a Montview contest, Azusa has a ten game winning streak, and now he’s four quarters from the CIF finals…You gotta love Kendrec McDade, 236-yards rushing and two touchdowns.

Name of the Day: (Yes, again) Dakota Behr, South Hills.

Congrats to Verne Lundquist and friends at CBS who graciously (especially in the anything but Christian environment of the media these days) attempted to quote the verse Tim Tebow had printed on his eye-black tape, the verse was Hebrews 12 verses one and two…not verse 12… Lundquist came back and corrected himself and then read the first verse of the passage…I’ve added them both…

“Therefore since we are surrounded by such a great crowd of witnesses let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles and let us run with perseverance the race marked out before us.

Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

I understand mentioning the name Jesus Christ in a non-pejorative is akin to a hate crime these days…so good for CBS…

Stay thirsty my friends…
