(San Dimas) – Paraclete survived miscues in the red zone, a safety and several missed opportunities but still managed to escape with a 15-12 win over Northview Friday night to advance to the Mid-Valley Division Finals.
Ethan Clark scored on a six-yard run with 2:33 left to give the Spirits the win. Clark’s run was Paraclete’s first lead of the game but it proved to be enough when the Spirits stopped Northview on the final drive. It was a defensive struggle all night as the Vikings came up with several big stops of their own. But it was Paraclete who delivered in the end.
***Clark’s run capped a 62-yard, seven-play drive that included a fourth down and seven conversion.
***Down 12-7 late in the second quarter, the Spirits had a first and goal at the one yard line. But fumbled on a pitch play and Northview recovered.
***On the first drive of the third quarter Paraclete ate nearly eight minutes off the clock driving down to the Viking four yard line but a 21-yard field goal attempt was blocked Northview.
***Northview scored first on a two yard run by Elijah Grijalva on the Vikings’ opening possession.
***Paraclete tied it at seven on an 83-yard strike from David Schmucker to Treyvon Green with 13 seconds left in the first quarter.
***Northview went up by five in the second on a safety when Schmucker was sacked in the end zone and a 42-yard field goal Enrique Jacobo.
***The Spirits went up 15-12 on a pass from Schmucker to Blake Jordan.
***Northview had 170 yards rushing including 110 by Alex Camacho.
***Paraclete had 113 yards rushing total. Melquise Stovall was held to just 40 yards rushing. Stovall had three catches for 67 yards.
***There was only one turnover in the game- Paraclete’s fumbled pitch on the one-yard line.
***There were nine punts in the contest (six by Northview.)
***”It was the physical defensive struggle that I expected. That’s a good football team over there,” said Northview HC Marcel Perez.
***”Gentleman, you’ve reached week 14 but you cannot play or practice again like you did tonight,” Paraclete HC Norm Dahlia told his team after the game.
