It’s one thing for a school to get to the semifinals for the first time in 16 years, it’s something even more when they are led there by a freshman quarterback. Yet this was the Northview Vikings story as they reached the Mid-Valley Division semifinals with freshman quarterback Steven Comstock under center.

Comstock completed 95 of 177 passes for 1,114 yards and 9 touchdowns against just five interceptions. He also rushed for 790 yards on 113 carries for eight touchdowns. He also caught a pass for 30 yards as the Vikings finished the 2014 campaign with an 11-2 record.

Lost over the course of the season was the fact that Comstock was only a freshman, but displayed considerable poise as Northview advanced to within one game of the division finals. In stat terms Comstock handled over 700 snaps from center, but lost only one fumble. Graduation is going to take a toll on Marcel Perez’s program, but with Comstock in place the Vikings figure to be in fine hands for the next three years.
