Morro Bay has selected David Kelley as its new head coach to replace Jack Greer who stepped down after the Pirates season ended.

Previously Kelley spent five seasons as the San Luis Obispo HC where he compiled a 25-27 record, with two playoff appearances, for the Tigers. He’s known for running the triple-option offense  and previously spent the 2004 and 2005 seasons as part of the Morro Bay coaching staff.

The Pirates, featuring a run heavy offense, finished 2013 with a 5-6 record, and narrowly lost to Northwest Division semifinalist Pasadena Poly, 7-0, in the first round. In Northern League play MB nearly upset eventual Northwest champion Nipomo, 15-14, but did beat semifinalist Templeton, 23-22, to force a three way tie for first place.

After taking over the Morro Bay program in 2012, which went 1-9 the previous season, Greer led the Pirates to three consecutive playoff appearances and a 20-14 overall record.
