1.  Legendary North Carolina basketball head coach Dean Smith passed away Saturday evening at the age of 83. Smith spent 36 seasons at the helm of the Tarheels and won 879 games and two national championships.

2. The APU Cougar men’s basketball team remains tied for second place in the PacWest Conference after their 87-80 loss to Cal Baptist Saturday night.

3.  On this day in 1971 Satchel Paige becomes the first Negro League player elected to the baseball Hall of Fame.

4.  Former Dallas Cowboy quarterback Danny White and former New York Met Mookie Wilson both turn 63 today.

5.  L.A. Clipper Blake Griffin will undergo surgery for a staph infection in his elbow and will be sidelined at the minimum through the All-Star break.

6.  Senior Lexie Scholtz is averaging 18.4 points and 11.7 rebounds for the 19-1 South Pasadena Lady Tigers.

7.  After beating Charter Oak 73-39 Friday night the Walnut Mustangs are 8-0 in the Hacienda League and 21-5 overall.

8.  The U.S. National Men’s National team defeated Panama 2-0 in a international friendly soccer match Sunday at the StubHub Center. The victory ended a five game winless streak.

9.  The Workman Lobos locked up a share of the Montview League title with their 93-34 drubbing of Duarte Friday night.
