1. Former Oakland Raiders quarterback Kenny Stabler passed away from cancer Wednesday at the age of 69. Stabler played for the Raiders from 1970- 1979 leading them to a win over Minnesota in Super Bowl XI. Stabler won the NFL MVP award in 1974 and played in four Pro Bowls. He played two years with Houston and three with New Orleans before retiring after the 1984 season.

2. California prosecutors have charged former San Francisco 49ers and Chicago Bears defensive tackle Ray McDonald with domestic violence and felony false imprisonment. The allegations include McDonald assaulting his ex-fiancée while she held their 2-month-old child.

3. Zach Greinke throws eight scoreless innings and allows just one hit in the Dodgers 6-0 win over the Phillies. Greinke has now  gone 35 2/3 innings without allowing a run.

4. The SGV Shootout Saturday at Arroyo- 9:00 a.m.

5. The Rose Bowl shoots down NFL inquiry of a possible temporary home for a team that relocates in Los Angeles.

6. Tampa Bay cornerback C.J. Wilson has been confirmed as the second NFL player to suffer a severe injury in a fireworks accident losing two fingers in a July 4 mishap. New York Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul had a finger amputated Wednesday due a fireworks accident also on the Fourth.

7. The Miami Marlins’ Jose Fernandez tied the modern record for most consecutive home victories by a starter to begin a career as he improved to 14-0 at Marlins Park with a 2-0 win over the Reds.

8. Happy Birthday to former San Francisco 49ers star running back Roger Craig who turns 55 today.

9. On this day in 1910 Comiskey Park in Chicago opens as the visiting Browns beat the White Sox 2-0.
