(Whittier) – Cal was out Saturday in helmet and pads in temperatures that reached triple digits.  The Condors finished 6-5 last year (3-2 in the Del Rio) and fell in the first round of the playoffs to Downey.

They lost quarterback Adam Satti to graduation but Evan Barajas is now at the controls and ready to lead. “He’s got a really good arm and is mobile too,” said second year coach Kyle Trudell.

Barajas has a couple of good targets to throw including track star Ricky Rodriguez. Robert Leos returns at running back to stabilize the ground game. Gabriel Cosio will also get some work carrying the rock. He broke off a couple of big runs Saturday in the heat at Pioneer. Cosio and Leos will run behind a solid offensive line that includes Big John Vasquez at right tackle who stands 6-6, 330.

Berto Arteaga will back up Barajas behind center.

Cal will play all of its home games in 2015 at Dick Torres Memorial Stadium while its field is being renovated. The Condors non league schedule: Gahr, at Bell Gardens, at Pomona, San Marino, at San Dimas.
