(Covina) – Jacob Olesniewicz booted a 42 yard field goal with no time remaining to give Claremont a 17-14 win over Covina Thursday night at Covina Valley District Field.

The Wolfpack got the ball back with 1:oo remaining and drove down to the Covina 26 where Olesniewicz delivered the game winner.

Duy Tran-Sampson carried the ball five consecutive times for Claremont on the final drive after the Wolfpack took over on their own 40.

Covina had the ball on its own 27 with 1:29 left but Laquamie Bond intercepted Covina quarterback Andrew Apodaca at the 40 to set up the winning march.

Claremont led 14-0 at the half after a 26 yard touchdown run by Bond in the first quarter and a two yard blast by Damien Cannon in the second.

Covina answered when Michael Roberts scored from two yards out with 4:41 left in the third quarter. The extra point was missed. Then with 42 seconds left in the third Apodaca got loose for a 44-yard touchdown run winning the race to the corner and beating the Claremont secondary. Eric Williams ran in the two point conversion to get the Colts even.

*** Tran-Sampson rushed for 172 yards on 30 carries for the Wolfpack.

*** Apodaca carried the ball 10 times for 80 yards and a touchdown.

*** Claremont quarterback Raine Pohaku Kaheaku-Paiva threw the ball just seven times and just once in the second half. He completed five for 33 yards.

*** Claremont rushed for 241 yards overall.

*** David Barragan had 14 carries for 42 yards for the Colts.

*** There were 12 punts in the game with each team booting it away six times.

*** Covina O-Line: LT- Daniel Sanchez, LG-Matt Martinez, C- Chirs Jiminez, RG-Andrew Fernandez, RT- Adrian Contreras.

*** Claremont O-Line: LT- Conner Tolliver, LG- Anthony Russo, C- Noah Garica, RG- John Gonzalez, RT- Ricky Sandoval.

*** Claremont improved to 3-0 and will host Damien next week.

*** Covina is now 1-1 and will travel to Baldwin Park next week.
