(Covina)- Bonita came into the game with its backs against the wall. Another loss would have left the Bearcats at 0-3 in the Palomares League and with only two games left a spot in the playoffs would be in jeopardy. Instead Bonita jumped right back in the hunt with a decisive 27-7 win over South Hills Thursday night at Covina District Field.

South Hills got on the board first but Bonita rebounded to reel off the next 27 points to put the Huskies away. After a scoreless first quarter, Andrew Segura scored on a four yard run early in the second for a 7-0 South Hills advantage.

On the next series Bonita came back with a 65-yard march capped by a 18-yard touchdown run by Romeo Gutierrez. On the next series Dylan Flores stepped in front of a Christian Martinez pass and returned it 25 yards for a touchdown. The pick six gave the Bearcats a lead that they never relinquished.

Garrett Deane booted 32-yard field goal as time ran out on the first half for a 17-7 lead. Bonita then shut out the Huskies in the second half.

*** Tanner East connected with Darien Gamell for a seven-yard TD strike in the third quarter to make it 24-7.

*** Segura rushed for 108 yards on 24 carries for the Huskies.

*** Martinez was intercepted again in the fourth quarter by Logan Zylstra that led to another Deane field goal that made it 27-7.

*** Zylstra also had a big night offensively catching four passes for 90 yards.

*** East completed 17 of 28 for 189 yards and a score.

*** Bonita turned the ball over once- a first quarter fumble – while the Huskies had the two picks.

*** Flores caught three passes for 24 yards.
