1. The Chicago Cubs’ Jake Arrieta wins the NL Cy Young Award. Dallas Keuchel of the Houston Astros wins the AL Cy Young Award.

2. Former NFL quarterback Doug Flutie’s parents both pass away within an hour of each other on Wednesday. They had been married for 56 years.

3. Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Sam Bradford suffered a separated shoulder as well as a concussion in last week’s loss to Miami. He will miss this week’s game against Tampa Bay and will be evaluated again next week.

4. Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz announces he will retire after the 2016 season.

5. Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo is expected to return this week against Miami after missing seven weeks with a broken collarbone. The Cowboys have lost seven straight games.

6. Houston Rockets head coach Kevin McHale is fired after a 4-7 start. J.B. Bickerstaff is named interim coach.

7. Paraclete running back Melquise Stovall, who rushed for 1603 yards on 198 carries last year, has just 450 yards on 40 carries this year. Stovall was hurt two weeks ago against Sierra Canyon and didn’t play last week in the first round playoff win over Azusa. The Spirits host San Dimas Friday night.

8. Don Lugo quarterback Dane Ford 2015 stats: Passing: 113-187-1551 yards, 18 TD, 6 Int.; Rushing: 38-320 yards, 2 TD.

9. On this day in 1951, Brooklyn Dodger catcher Roy Campanella is named NL MVP on his 3oth birthday.
