All games are 7:00 p.m. Unless otherwise indicated

Friday November 20

La Serna (10-2) at St. Francis (9-3)

This one is too close to call. I’m glad I don’t have a Benjamin on it. Both teams can score. Both teams can play defense and both teams have athletes that can make big plays. St. Francis might have a slight edge in coaching with Jim Bonds and company but the truth is Andy George and the La Serna coaches are just an extension of Margarito Beltran – basically the same staff. These two met last year in the second round with the Lancers pulling out a 38-35 win at home. It could be the same result or St. Francis could have the home field edge. I’m leaning Golden Knights at Friedman Field. Don’t ask me why. I pulled it out of a hat.

La Mirada (9-3) at Cathedral (11-1)

As unsure as I am about La Serna – St. Francis I’ve never been more sure about an outcome in this game. La Mirada wins – handily. La Mirada has been scoring in bunches. The 38 points the Matadores scored last week against Dominguez was the least amount of points they have scored in the last eight weeks. They can throw it with Tristan Meyer and run it with Sei-j Lauago. Receiver Micah Croom is a D-1 prospect. Cathedral needs to run the ball more with Kameron Johnson and Marcos Lopez. If Andrew Tovar sits back in the pocket and throws the La Mirada secondary could have a field day. This is the year La Mirada makes everybody forget recent playoff history. Mats going away.
