1. Right-handed pitcher Mike Leake signs a five-year, $80 million deal with the St. Louis Cardinals.

2. Boise State quarterback Brett Rypien is the nephew of former Washington Redskins quarterback Mark Rypien.

3. LA Galaxy defender Omar Gonzalez leaves the team for Liga MX Pachuca.

4. New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. loses his appeal and will not play in Sunday night’s game against Minnesota.

5. Carolina Panthers cornerback Josh Norman is fined $26.044 for his scuffles with Beckham last Sunday in the win over the Giants.

6. La Canada is 8-1 with its only loss coming at the hands of Sierra Canyon (9-1).

7. Sierra Canyon 6’8″ forward Ira Lee is averaging 13.9 points per game and shooting 64 percent from the field.

8. The San Gabriel Valley Classic runs December 26-30 at Covina High School.
