1. The Minnesota Timberwolves hire Tom Thibodeau as their new head coach and president of basketball operations. He signs a five-year deal for approximately $40 million.

2. The Philadelphia Eagles acquire the number two overall pick in the NFL draft from the Cleveland Browns for five draft picks.

3. Former major league pitcher Milt Pappas passed away Tuesday at the age of 71. Pappas won 209 games over a 17 year career with the Orioles, Reds, Braves and the Cubs. He came within one pitch of throwing a perfect game against the Padres in 1972. Instead he walked Larry Stahl with two outs in the ninth on a pitch disputed by Pappas and finished with a no hitter.

4. The Phoenix Suns remove the interim tag from Earl Watson and sign him to a three-year deal to be their head coach.

5. Chino linebacker Jason Duran will play at the University of La Verne next season.

6. The Carolina Panthers rescind the franchise tag on cornerback Josh Norman, making Norman a free agent who can sign with any team in the league.

7. The new preliminary CIF playoff divisions for football are leaked but CIF issues a warning stating they aren’t final and “anybody who thinks they are is sorely mistaken and will look like fools when they are finally sent out.” The official playoff divisions will be released in August.

8. Happy Birthday to Dallas Cowboy quarterback Tony Romo, who turns 36 today.

9. Only one 1/2 games separate the top four teams in the MVL baseball standings. Rosemead 8-4, South El Monte 7-4, Mt. View 7-5, El Monte 6-5.

10. “Well, we can’t all be Terry Bradshaw.” – Tony Romo.
