Springtime in M-Town

Richie Schroeder will take over at quarterback

Richie Schroeder will take over at quarterback

By Tim Peterson

(Monrovia) – Monrovia was out Thursday throwing the ball around with Cantwell. They have a new head coach in Jerry Chou and a couple of new (but familiar) faces in assistant coaches Mike McKay and Jacob Ochoa.

Richie Schroeder (yeah, that’s really his name) will get his shot at quarterback taking over for the graduated Asaph Zamora. Who else should we keep an eye on? Well I was given the names of running back Maury Rams, OL/DL Cesar Gutierrrez and receiver Elijah Hall. Oh and some kid named Washington. Well be hearing a lot more about them later but for now here’s a few shots.

As for Cantwell, Travis Brown, the former Duarte HC, is now running things for Cardinals.

"Anyone who has a kid trying out for his High School football team needs to read this book. Torosian has taken his 20 some years of reporting on Prep sports, mixed a healthy dose of San Gabriel Valley insider references and created a very readable first effort." "A page turner...I'm sorry it's over! Is a sequel in the works?" "Torosian does for high school football what Hemingway did for the Spanish Civil War...compelling look beyond the scoreboard and into the lives of players..." "A truly great story unfolds in the pages of Joe Torosian's first novel. With high school football at its core, the story of Dale Andrade shows how a young man grows in all aspects of his life thanks to being a part of a team and a football community." “This is a great read for everyone: from those who love high school football to those who have no idea about the game.” "This book brings you onto the field and into the locker room..." Loving the fact that Monrovia doesn’t have this huge Target on their back this season. They are under the radar still, nobody knows what the team chemistry will be.. I think they are going to surprise many teams and make a nice run in 2016. Can’t wait, Go Wildcats!

@area spec. Lmfao. From what I hear the bottom half of the outfit was even worse. Lol

I had heard rumblings about some pretty big names going to Cantwell… Raul Lara, Jimmy Nolan, Bill Zernickow. How’d they end up with Mr Brown? Not knocking him personally but he had a losing record in a bad league. That’s the big splash you were trying to make? He might be a great coach he might even enjoy some success there but what a drop off from the names your boosters were throwing out.,

Hey Tim, I’m surprised they didn’t mention Malcom Weston, He will certainly be the difference on the defense. Monrovia is truly a whole new team with a new coach, several young players and great team spirit. Maury RamsIV is going to be another great running back and he”s only a sophomore. This team just needs to stay focused, the Central Div. is wide open this year.
From T. Peterson: They actually did mention Weston but originally they thought he transferred to Cathedral. Apparently he’s back now but wasn’t on the field yesterday – just on the sidelines. We’ll see.

Can’t even believe a coach would wear an outfit like that. Sure hope McKay didn’t complete more passes than the actual QB’s that play at Monrovia haha!
