Joe T.

Joe T….Yes, I’m very heterodox in my opinions of Kevin Costner’s performance…how’s that for a big word? I’m totally ready for tomorrow morning.

“Well, uh, I love a good polka as much as the next man.”—Frenchy

Kick it!

Right off the Top: I don’t know…maybe I’m a bad person…but Kevin Costner spoke way too long last night at the Vin Scully tribute…and it felt like he was only regurgitating stuff others had already said.

The only one who seemed to get it right, at least to me, was Clayton Kershaw. He was up and sitting down before you could say, Manny Mota.

Less riff-raff, more Vin, and the ceremony would have been even better.

Okay, so they haven’t exactly beaten St. John Bosco, Crespi, and West El Monte Poly….but no one thought (except for maybe the players in the locker room) the El Monte Lions would be 3-2 right now. Especially after losing their first two games by a combined score of 84-12.

How long has it been? Are we in the 21st Century? Can Michigan get some better looking turf? Their turf looks older than Bo Schembechler.

I remember when Bill Zernickow left San Dimas, I fielded questions (I love the way that sounds; fielded questions) about how things were going to change at SD and that a lot of the coaching staff was taking off to different places.

My response wasn’t, “Oh, the Saints aren’t going to miss a beat.” (Sorry to say)…But it sure looks like the Saints haven’t missed a beat.

Joe T.'s High School football novel is available through Amazon.com “A literary snapshot of what goes on over the course of a high school football season…an awesome read and a story that truly will transcend time.”—Jim Singiser, AD/HC Arroyo Knights Football “Thrill, dread, anxiety, love, agony, success, and failure; basically all the emotions you feel as a football player/coach as you do in life, all wrapped up in a single book.”—Marc Paramo, HC Rosemead Panthers Football “I read the book and really enjoyed it a great deal. I would think coaches and parents could Learn a lot.”—John “Coach” Kentera, former sports talk host at Mighty 690 & Mighty 1090

Mark Holman went 10-4 in his first season and played in the CIF Finals against Sierra Canyon. This year “The San Dimas High School” is 4-0, they’ve outscored opponents 209 to 48…12 of those points allowed have come in the fourth quarter of blowouts…In 2015 they only allowed 154 points during the regular season.

Pomona comes and goes…but the Saints are like the wheel in the sky…they just keep on turning.

Of course, it doesn’t hurt having Jarell Sykes rushing for 650 yards and eight touchdowns (11 total)…playing defense and defending passes…I have it from good sources this dude is finally a senior…so the rest of the Valle Vista can cheer up…a little bit.

It’s hard for me to make predictions concerning the Los Angeles Rams with any serious conviction…When I make a prediction for anything else, I immediately sing my praises if it happens…and when it doesn’t, I immediately began to distribute reasons why my prognostication died on the vine…

With the Rams, I can predict a 20-7 victory over the Buccaneers tomorrow…But if they win 9-3, I’m going to be doing the Electric Slide…in the RamCave…all alone…

Good news is…The New England Patriots saw my film from the Creston Tournament last year…They’re asking how soon I can get to Foxboro for a tryout…So I got that going for me…which is nice.

Getting sick of the head-to-head calls in high school football…I understand player safety…but if these officials making the calls aren’t better schooled on what head-to-head contact really is…we’re going to be having discussions about officials safety…

And I can live with a bad call…We all suck, right? No matter our intentions, we all have occasion to suck…but I think the most frustrating aspect of poor officiating is the high-handed attitude they often take…I mean sometimes these guys think they wield the kind of power a clerk at the DMV does…

So much for Saturday night Frase at APU tonight…

Oh, I like it when teams run up the score…And I liked it when I was coaching basketball when teams ran up the score on me…Don’t ask me if I ever ran the score up on anybody. The caliber of my coaching and the type of player I coached prevented that scenario from ever occurring…but getting the score run up on me was an excellent teaching opportunity…I never got mad at the team, teams, and leagues that did it to me…all the time.

Do you get the impression/feeling/idea that Dale Ziola, Tyler Nevens, and the Los Altos Conquerors are playing for keeps? They are 5-0 now and could be 7-0 by the time Chino comes to town.

Since arriving after the worst season in school history (0-10, in 2010)…Ziola’s gone 41-23 and now he’s got a field you can dine on.

It’s early, I know, but we could be looking at a 14-game season here.

Last Add Dodgers: I’d liked to have seen the team gather as many of its former players as possible and put jerseys on them just to give everyone a sense and scope of how long 67 years is.

South Pasadena faces Gabrielino next week. The Tigers should be 4-1 going into Rio Hondo League play…Do you know how many RHL title South Pas has won this century? Do you know how many they won in the 90s? Do you know how many they won in the 80s?

If you said, none…You’re right…The South Pasadena Tigers have not won a Rio Hondo League title in football since 1977.

I’m going to go out on a limb…South Pasadena wins the RHL in 2016…And the prep ghost of Robby Chapman will smile.

Midbits: On this date in 1969…at 6:07 P.M. PST. The New York Mets became champions of the National League East for the very first time.

Midbits: Former Muir standout, Tony Crutchfield turns 47 today.

Midbits: After the Mets loss, I’m all in with the Padres tonight…Just call me Enzo Hernandez.

Midbits: Father Merrin and Father Karras are currently on their way to see the Monrovia football team…to cast-out whatever evil that has manifested.

Midbits: “I think some apologies are in order.”—Lieutenant Steve
