1.The Chicago Cubs beat the Dodgers 4 games to 2 and reach the World Series for the first time since 1945.

2. South El Monte’s Sal Tovar needs 269 yards in his next two games to reach the 2,000 yard mark for the season.

3. The APU Cougars scored three times on defense to start Saturday’s 57-0 rout of Simon Fraser on two interception returns and a fumble recovery.

4. Former Montreal Expo and Los Angeles Dodger and favorite of Mid Valley staffer Joe Torosian F.P. Santangelo turns 50 today.

5. Texas Tech’s Patrick Mahomes accounted for 819 yards of total offense (734 passing, 85 rushing and seven total touchdowns) in the 66-59 loss to Oklahoma. Baker Mayfield threw for 545 yards and a record seven touchdowns for the Sooners.

6. Per MaxPreps, Whittier Christian’s Quinn Commans is fourth in the nation in passing with 3,434 yards with 40 touchdowns and only two interceptions.

7. Los Altos at Charter Oak Friday night at 7:00 p.m.

8. On this day in 1986 Dodger shortstop Bill Russel announces his retirement.

9. UCLA’s Mike Fafaul set Bruin records for passing attempts (70) and completions (40) in UCLA’s 52-45 loss to  Utah.
