(Carson) – Roman Alessandrini got LA on the board early and Jermaine Jones finished it late as the Galaxy beat the Montreal Impact 2-0 Friday night before 19,058 at the StubHub Center.

Alessandrini drew first blood in the 15th minute as he booted one by Montreal goalkeeper Evan Bush from distance. The ball rolled into the net by Bush who looked like he got caught leaning the wrong way.

The Galaxy had a couple of shots early in the contest. Emmanuel Boateng took a pass from Gio dos Santos and then dished it to Jermaine Jones who had a point blank chance in the 10th minute but Bush made the save. LA continued to buzz until Alessandrini scored the first goal.

Clement Diop came up with a big save in the 41st minute off a blast from the Impact. In the 44th minute Montreal’s Marco Donadel was hit with a red card for decking Jones with an elbow.

Two minutes of additional time were added in the first half that ended 1-0 LA.

The Impact had an opportunity in the 53rd minute when Matteo Mancosu eluded the Galaxy defense and got off a shot but it sailed wide of the net.

The Galaxy had a couple of chances in front of the net later in the half but couldn’t get it by Bush.

Jones sealed it for for LA in the 74th minute when he outran the Impact defense, rushed down the field and fired one by a diving Bush. Jones resembled a running back who broke through the line and had one man to beat for a touchdown. He beat that man.

Diop came out of the box to make a sprawling stop on Mancosu in the 84th minute to preserve the shutout.

Three minutes of additional time were added – three minutes later the Galaxy walked off with the 2-0 victory. It was the first shutout of Diop’s career as he made two saves on the night.

The Galaxy improved to 2-3 on the year as they inch closer to .500. The Impact remained winless at 0-2-3.
