Investing time and effort into the lower levels is good however its very important to retain the talent, kids go different directions, some of them choose to play, some of them get involved with the wrong crowds, some of them have other priorities. Every program faces the same issues year after year. Of that freshmen class the majority are playing, there are a couple of impact players who would have started this season, who mistakingly chose not to play this year however they know they made a mistake and want to come back. Me saying it and them doing it is a much different story though. El Rancho has seen great lower levels win when they get to varsity and great lower levels falter when they get to varsity. When Willie Reyna was at ER the lower levels were loaded year after year league titles that never seemed to translate when they go to him. Rick Zepeda had a monster class in 06 that went 9-1 with half the games being shutout… that team ended up flipping into the playoffs and losing a very winnable game against Schurr in Rd 1 in 2009. 2011 was the best freshmen class at the ranch in maybe 20 years, they were undefeated and lost the league title to Cal High because they lost half the team to grades, they ended up with the first Del Rio League title in 17 years then laid an egg vs Burbank. 2015 another loaded class for the ranch finished 4-6 because of lack of stability on the coaching staff. Last season the 1st quarterfinal game at the ranch in 16 years all done with a group of kids who went 3-7 as freshmen. In the end my point is although talent is key at the lower levels and is part of the equation, Coaching is the most important factor. El Rancho for the 1st time in years is putting more effort into the lower levels, it looks like we have the horses but coaching will be key.

I support my varsity boys as much as possible and when they play LS , I’ll still be rooting for hem … lose 45-0 like cypress? I’ll still support them like they won 45-0 … but what I’m paying a lot of attention to is how our Freshman. And JV do against LS … LS is a SENIOR heavy team as is ER this year …. I have seen LS at its peak with Beltran … and I’m telling you now , there JV could have probably won DRL a couple of years .. the freshman dominated everyone … BUT not anymore… maybe less recruits ? Maybe less transfers? Maybe Beltran gone? Idk what it is but to our benifit , I’m not hear to tell you ER is going to beat LS this year but I’ll tell you this … JV and Freshman BEAT LS 🙂 lol

El Rancho has improved but they have yet to prove they can beat La Serna. This year alone El Rancho has lost to all their division 9 opponents. They lost to Norwalk which is ranked 14th according to max-preps and to Cypress which is ranked 4th. They lost to the fourth best team in their division by a score of 45-0. What makes you think that El Rancho could possibly beat the top three teams in the division if they can’t beat a fourth or a 14th ranked. In a few years they might improve but looking at the disparity from the top teams to the lower end teams and there is a huge gap.

    Wow, stories you’ve heard? Hahaha
How about you stick to facts, you place your child at 7yrs old in a organization that was blasted in the news for beating up a parent … called a thug cholo hood team for years and still to this day people hear PR and reference that one incident… then I have to explain that the story they “heard” or “saw on tv” does not define Pico Rivera Dons …. and as a proud Don as yourself as you say mr. Anon… your child was taught well at PR … but I guess you never heard the stories of PR Dons bc then again .. if you did… you never would have allowed your son to be a PR Don right? Lol
Cmon bro , point proven … don’t believe what you here .. I raise my kids to make there own secessions .. they don’t get influenced by “atmosphere “ … if a kid is going to do good .. they will do good anywhere.. stop encouraging this enabled A$$ Generation that’s full of excuses … work hard and succeed no matter your situation .. you write your own book … this is the problem with a lot of PRDon parents … they think they are better than Pico Rivera lol … yet you are Pico Rivera … stay home and play for your school … but this is why high school football will never be the same as before … not in SoCal atleast … gotta move to another state …. sad tho, these kids don’t know what they are missing

Just like the Dons taught him but we left that wing T for the Ranch to live and die with. It’s 2017 it’s time to move ahead and get with the times. Proud PR Don he is but the Ranch no thank you.

What bad stories have you heard? You’d be shocked how many El Rancho Dons are coaching your kids the El Rancho way at Rivera Park. Go ahead pay $7k for your son to ride the pine and be miserable or lose to inferior talent. If you think Aint Paul is any better than the ranch then you are an absolutely fool. I guess Bishop Amat, bosco, Mater Dei, servite are an option but you go from all League all cif to all league bench warmer. But I guess it’s cool to be a scrub right? St Paul has lost to 3 public schools this year and are recruiting inner city and Canadian talent and letting the loyal kids go to waste… Montebello 42 SP 35, ER 35 Montebello 7. Amat is in the dumps. Servite is a perennial doormat in the trinity and no Pico kid is ever gonna do anything at bosco.

El Rancho has a talented freshmen class that is going through some growing pains but does have the horses they just have to get it all together and they can be great 3-2, don’t forget the only team who has touched up LS during their run has been the ranch. I saw La Serna a few games back, although they look well coached and run things very sound, talent wise I didn’t see them above and beyond anyone in the DRL however they still looked good 3-2. Whittier is undefeated but has played against all 1-4 or 0-5 teams. Cal High has looked decent, they lost to Valencia which is always a though team 3-1. Santa Fe is in shambles at 0-5 with no talent at the lower levels. Pioneer is Pioneer.

At the Varsity level it’s uncharacteristic for LS to be beat so bad by these upper echelon teams, it might be enough to still win the Del Rio but I don’t see them as a D3 team much longer.

Yes getting closer … have you seen La Serna’s lower divisions dominate The Ranch? Nope!
All chips are still in LS corner for the moment being , don’t take anything away untill they are beat…
but if you think LS isn’t on a spiral going down hill… time will prove one of us wrong.
If you read my comments regarding LS “tough” schedule …. you would see I clearly stated LA SERNA GOT BLOWN OUT JUST LIKE ANYONE IN DEL RIO WOULD …
if Pico Rivera Dons would just move up to El Rancho like it should be …even keeping the out of town kids .. easyCIF championship with in 4 years .. it just takes one strong freshman class to start the wave

You bring up some excellent points. LA parents are the worst, OMG. Especially in the stands. I saw one parent badgering the kids from the stands at the Glendora game. And they also were shouting profanity at the refs during that game. No class. Let’s be honest, none of you LA parents thought your team would be 4-1 at this point. Give this staff – and ESPECIALLY your players – the credit and respect they deserve. They have a young and very talented team coming up. Kudos to Los Altos on a job well done thus far.

Well said! I love scouting opponents and listening to their parents in the stands, a lot of times it tells me which kids to pick on. I listen to some of the parents and think, “Someday that kid is going to be eaten alive in his job because his parents haven’t taught him to be a man.”

And what’s even worse is you think you’re helping your kids but you’re actually the crutch that keeps them down. All you’re doing is raising a bunch of entitled kids that never live up to their potential because them blame everyone but themselves. Do your kids a favor and shut up in the stands, get off message boards and help n teach them to deal with their problems on their own like real young men.

Today’s parents are the worst. Let’s blame the coaches when little Timmy can’t make a play. It’s the coaches fault little Timmy can’t do what he’s coached to do. It’s the coaches fault little Timmy is a slow as a turtle. That being said, LA fans might take the cake. Not even being discreet about it, but instead being loud obnoxious and going on message board first chance they get. Bad part is they just don’t get it, it’s just a bad look. By blasting you’re coaches the only person you make look bad is yourself. Take a look in the mirror, you won’t like what you see….

ER don’t take anything away from La Serna … they are favorites untill someone beats them in league,
but just like La Mirada lost last week… so can La Serna. I honestly don’t believe La Serna is the same team as before … they been getting creamed in the pre season. Sure you can bring out the “ strength of schedule” card … but let’s be realistic , in the years before LS could atleast hang with these t”tough” teams , today they are getting creamed … just like anyone else in the Del Río league would… lol
ER is catching LS … every year.. we get closer .. it’s evident by our lower divisions… alone that freshman team they have right now would do damage in a tougher schedule but it is what it is we play with the cards that are given to us … #norecruiting #notransfers.. #HomeGrown … if only we could keep PR youth to go to ER… we would #dominate

La Serna would have struggled with norwalk, Bg might have been a very difficult one because of Beltran, Pomona and montebello they would have beaten, Cypress would beat them no doubt. My guess maybe they would be 3-2 or 4-1 against the same schedule. Had they not struggled with Troy or gotten walloped by St Francis I would say it’s the La Serna of old but its not. You can’t be serious about going back to your 2014 or 2015 teams, 2015 was the best La Serna team they’ve ever had even better than the 2013 CIF champ team, had they not faced La Mirada they would have won it all that season.

    Prediction: Del Rio Final Standings
    1. La Serna 4-1
    2. El Rancho 4-1
    3. Whittier 3-2
    4. Santa Fe 2-3
    5. California 1-4
    6. Pioneer 0-5

I can’t see anyone going undefeated this year, except for maybe La Serna. But I don’t think they will. Both ER and Whittier are athletic, but lack depth in crucial positions. I wouldn’t be surprised if either Whittier or ER finished ahead of La Serna. ER needs stay healthy and Whittier needs to learn how to close out games.

Los Altos is playing well not great. I definitely see this team making the playoffs and possibly making it out of the first round. They are a young team with up and coming sophomores that will be play makers if they are well coached. Coach Spathias is doing an excellent job after taking over a team that graduated basically everyone. This type of season will only help Los Altos by some of the younger players buying into a winning season. No one likes losing and for younger players when they have to choose between Los Altos or Wilson they obviously choose the team that has the winning record. It should be remainder of the season as I see Los Altos finishing second or third. They should have wins over Walnut, Chino, and West Covina. But might run into trouble against Diamond Ranch and Charter Oak.
