@ron what signs did Alhambra show of being back? They made playoffs because there in a league with keppel and San Gabriel. They beat a rebuilding bg team and lost to montebello and Schurr. If you take away keppel and San Gabriel from the almont Alhambra will be the bottom feeder that everyone beats up on. All there wins have been against below average teams except for maybe the temple city win this year but there a rebuilding team. name a Alhambra Win in the last three years against a solid team. They only one you can point to is last year against a rebuilding bg team or this year against a rebuilding temple city team.

@ almont fan: I agree with you about the need for a change to this league, at least when it comes to football.
Keppel should’ve been placed in another league years ago. I believe San Gabriel has better prospects for improving fairly soon, so maybe the Matadors should get a little more time.
Alhambra started to show signs of life last year, so we’ll see how it pans out for the Moors this season and maybe the next one.
I think that a comprehensive reorganization of the leagues in the San Gabriel Valley is long overdue.

@ Bank: Actually, that was an objective news story I wrote about the Alhambra-San Gabriel game. I posted it here because Tim Peterson was too busy to do a write-up himself last weekend. I believe it meets journalistic standards.
As for “forfeit wins” over San Gabriel and Mark Keppel, the three Montebello district teams have been busily collecting them, too, so it’s all even from that standpoint.
We can respectfully disagree. The fun part is watching the games unfold and finding out who’s right.
A win on Friday night would be a nice step forward for the Alhambra program. I have confidence in the guys, and a ton of respect for B.G.
May your money always be in a safe place, sir.

Take it to the bank is right. Eric hasn’t beaten a decent team. Look at what a rebuilding temple city team did to South Pasadena. Eric’s teams in three years hasn’t been able to that to South Pasadena. Shows what a good coach can do. Eric’s used to the college game which is not wrong but this is high school u have to adjust your system to what u have.

For the love of God, how many times must we hear Vrooman bubbling over about Alhambra beating San Gabriel? It’s embarrassing, actually, because even people in comas know that a win over SG or Keppel is the same as a forfeit victory. The man continues to hammer on the theme that last season’s playoff berth was a sign of “progress”, when again, those same people in comas know it was because of the two forfeit wins over SG and Keppel, plus a once-in-a-lifetime gift from Beltran during his reorganization. The salient fact is that while every other team was pounding Beltran’s super-young group, Alhambra had their hands full with those kids. This shows that Bergstrom’s varsity product plays on the level of most other programs’ JV teams. These are facts, and if Vrooman sincerely wants to have intelligent conversations, he should respect them as such.

@@ NWO: Alhambra football is bereft of hope? With a win at home against Bell Gardens this Friday night, the Moors will most likely make the playoffs for the second straight year. That would be progress, if you ask me.
Bell Gardens will be a formidable opponent, but the Moors are also coming off a big win. (B.G. beat Keppel, and we defeated San Gabriel.) I believe that Coach Bergstrom and his staff will have the team prepared for the Lancers, and I think we have a reasonable shot at winning.

As for unhappy players, not even winning guarantees happiness. Alhambra had at least a couple of disgruntled players, as well as disgruntled parents and booster club members, when Coach Lou Torres led the team to a 9-3 record in 2011.
The coaching staff is doing its best to win games; winning a popularity contest with some of the players and parents is way down the list of things to accomplish.

You must be reading someone else’s material when you talk about painting a rosy picture. I tell it like it is.
During the course of the season, I’ve mentioned issues such as pass coverage and tackling by our secondary, our long-snapping, and the inconsistency of our placekicking, right here at Mid-Valley Sports.
I also came straight out and said that we got manhandled by Montebello in the second half. Alhambra’s defense finally got worn down by a bigger and deeper Oiler squad, after the team wasted scoring opportunities in the first half. I’d call that honesty.

The amount of scorn that has been directed toward the Alhambra coaching staff over the last few days is out of proportion, considering the fact that the team is coming off a 42-0 victory. One might’ve sworn that AHS had lost to San Gabriel. Your timing is off, to say the least.

By the way, my one-year-old keyboard is fine, so I don’t need any upgrades right now. I invite everyone to watch Alhambra play Bell Gardens; you might be entertained, and the Moors might actually win.

@ Mr. Objective: All right, enough already. Haven’t we had enough fun with this?
The stands at Moor Field are pretty sparsely populated until the last 30 minutes or so before game time. There will hardly be a phalanx of bodyguards; we have just enough people to watch the gates, and we frequently get a few unpaid customers (i.e., fence-climbers) during the course of a game.
Besides, I’ll be sitting on the home side at Schurr High on Nov. 3. There won’t be any protection detail there, either. Also, keep in mind that someone at my pay grade ($0) typically doesn’t get one to begin with, home or away.
I’ll be at the games to talk about football or almost anything else until just before 7:00. After that, I’ll have to go to work.

@ Moor Excitement: Nice writing there; you might have a future as a standup comic or as a comedy writer. You’re absolutely right about the hitting below the belt that occurs on these boards.
I do my best to learn everything I can, and to disseminate honest and factual information. If I fall short, it’s not from a lack of effort. Whenever I’m wrong on even a minor point, I want to know about it.

I have nothing personal against Jude Oliva. But, the use of an ineligible player at the beginning of the 2012 season, the resulting forfeit by the Matadors of that opening game against Animo High, and the hazy circumstances surrounding his departure later that year all raised red flags for me.

Having said that, Coach Oliva is one of the best at running an offense. I wish him success in his teaching job at Buena Park High and in his future coaching endeavors.
I’ve actually met Coach Oliva, and I worked with him a few times as a substitute campus supervisor when he was still at San Gabriel High six or seven years ago. He seemed to be a decent guy.

I don’t know that every program needs a guy like Vrooman, but every blog sure does. I believe MVS should cut him a check around Christmas time, or buy him a new keyboard, as I’m sure his massive posts have made the letters wear off. As for Ron’s truthfulness, it’s clear to everybody but the stat man himself that he paints a far too rosy picture of coach Bergstrom’s coaching abilities and future prospects. But don’t take my word for it, ask the players if they’re happy now, or if they think they’ll look back on their playing days with fondness for Eric Bergstrom. Nothing is worse than being stuck in a situation bereft of hope, and THAT is really the tragedy of present-day Alhambra football.

This much-anticipated fight between Vrooman and several rogue commenters needs to be expanded to a full 15 rounds, with the Alhambra-BG game shortened to fit the halftime slot. Going back to the cal game We led 8-7 with 20 seconds left in the game, they scored and took the lead 15-8. Then we got the ball back ran a trick play down to the 15 yard line timeout with 11 seconds to go, we throw a quick fade incomplete and all of a sudden 11 seconds gone from the clock and game over, some home cooking but you know what no excuses we should have stopped them on defense and didn’t. BTW I don’t think montebello’s run is over, in fact Schurrs dominance will be very short lived. I actually think BG is going to shock this season, but we will see.

NEWS ABOUT THE ALHAMBRA-SAN GABRIEL GAME

Dylan Araiza returned the opening kickoff 92 yards for a touchdown to send Alhambra on its way to a 42-0 victory over the San Gabriel Matadors last Friday night.
The Moors’ offense followed with scores on its first four possessions to give AHS a 35-0 lead before the end of the first quarter.
Nose guard Gabriel Hernandez recovered a San Gabriel fumble in the Matadors’ end zone early in the second quarter for Alhambra’s final touchdown.
Senior tailback Salman Gurung led the Moors in rushing with seven carries for 69 yards and two TD’s. Alhambra quarterback Julien Garcia completed two of three passes for 69 yards, including a 50-yard scoring strike to Araiza. Garcia also ran 19 yards for a touchdown.
The visiting Moors needed to run just 21 plays on offense. The clock was stopped only twice during the second half, once for a San Gabriel timeout, and the other time for an injured player.
Freshman quarterback Allan Jimenez accounted for nearly all of San Gabriel’s offense, connecting on eight of 18 passes for 81 yards. He was intercepted twice.
The Moors improved their record to 1-1 in the Almont League, and to 3-3 overall. The Matadors fell to 0-2 in league and 1-5 overall.
Alhambra will take on the Bell Gardens Lancers at Moor Field this Friday night in a game with playoff implications.

@ Mr. Objective, SGV Insider, NWO, & The Truth: I appreciate people like you, and not just because you’re backing me in this particular case. I enjoy having dialogues with knowledgeable folks who communicate their thoughts sensibly, even though we might disagree at times.

@ NWO: Friday night’s game at San Gabriel High almost had the feel of an Alhambra-Mark Keppel game being played at Aztec Stadium.
The crowd certainly enjoyed the homecoming festivities and seemed a little apathetic—or was it resigned—about the game.
The main difference between last Friday’s contest at San Gabriel and games I’ve seen at Keppel is that there was a lot more foot traffic and activity on the upper concourse at Matador Stadium.
The Matadors were heavily overmatched this time around, but I hope that changes soon. It might take a few years, but San Gabriel will be back.
And, I believe the Alhambra team will continue to improve. Why should the Montebello schools hog all of the Almont League football glory?

@ SGV: I don’t think it will amount to any of that, but I’ll take the precautions of arriving extra early and sitting in a relatively isolated spot. As a veteran public school teacher, I’d be one of the last people on the planet to subject young people to any physical danger.
I want to make clear something that should already be obvious: I was responding to a case of online bullying by someone who lacks the courage to provide their real name.
I did not challenge this individual to a fight; I simply let him know where I could be found, since he seemed to be having difficulty with that. I’m willing to talk to anyone as long as they don’t brandish a weapon.
I’m fairly easy to get along with, and I assure everyone that I’ll be unarmed.

Sorry I been busy to check and when I did nothing was uploaded ..

Look anonymous, who ever the heck you are .. I stand by what I said … ER is still rising !
Cal is a bottom feeder! But see this is the Del Río league and unlike the Almont league our bottom feeders actually do win lol … cal is a bottom feeder simply based off statistics which is also facts .. Del Río has been majority dominated by LS SF and ER … bottom three is CAL whittier and Pioneer … but like I said … we still don’t take anyone lightly bc as you can see from this Friday night … we can still lose …
Almont vs Del Río … del Río will always dominate ! That’s a fact … lol
Keep drinking that delusional look aide at schurr lol .. they got nothing after this year!!! This is the dream team and you can barely beat whittier and cal! Lol let’s not mention montebello , bc you got one on them this year … I’m curios how the JV and freshman did ??? Anyone know ?

I’ll keep with my support of the ranch, outsiders don’t know … even with the lost this Friday .. you can feel the atmosphere different with Medrano … he’s is doing great job … and I’m positive his success on the field will only re assure the nay sayers .. watch !

All credit given to Cal, the boys did great and they showed up .. they still have things to fix as does The Ranch … should we have lost ? No way .. but we did .
Can we still win out league ? Yes we can… and I’m still rooting for the boys to win out ! That will leave us with a split title with SF …

My vote still goes to BG ! Hahahah
