Fanview Lite: April 14, 2010

Former Mt. View bruiser and second year Mid Valley staffer Big George Hernandez has become Mr. Insider at The Mid.

Good Evening!

T-Minus-148 Days until “The Mid Valley Classic”

Seems odd a 41-year old catcher should be out for three months with a bad back…I wonder if the Dodgers can get Angel Pena activated, he’s only 35.

Great deal by the Dolphins to get Brandon Marshall from the Broncos…and I’m very sure new Denver quarterback Brady Quinn is ecstatic about it as well.

Not a gambling man but anybody want to give me the overs and unders of Josh McDaniels being the Broncos HC when the 2011 season kicks off? (Provided there is a 2011 season)

The current Mid Valley Sports poll asking voters to pick the Final Four in the Southeast Division in 2010 is coming down tonight. A late rush by the suddenly interested Norwalk faithful have pushed the Lancers to the second spot behind Diamond Ranch.

Mid Valley staffer Big George Hernandez was quick to point out the new arrivals to the Southeast posted three thousand yard rushers last season in Elijhaa Penny (1,569 22 Tds), Adrian Gonzales (1,340 17 Tds), and Billy Moore (1,166 15 Tds). The bad news for Norwalk is Gonzalez is graduating. The good news is Penny and Moore return.

Fast Note on Penny: The dude is 6’2” 240, runs a 4.6 forty and committed to Washington in March. Besides racking up all those yards on the ground he also registered eight sacks, scored four picks, and led Norwalk in tackles. So he is very good and arriving just in time to spread some havoc in the Southeast.

Hey we got some good news on former Mountain View Viking quarterback and Citrus linebacker Leander Benjamin today… but we can’t share just yet.

I cannot wait until the NFL Draft…and I cannot believe there are football people out there, who call themselves “football people” who have no interest in the NFL Draft…

SAY WHAT?

…I said, they have no interest in the NFL Draft.

Here’s a question that came up during my grueling hours long lunch with Zeke Prado at Armando’s last Saturday. “Is the stipend for the head football coach the same as the stipend for the head golf coach at the high school level?”

If it is, is that right? Wrong? Should everything be fair? Are all sports equal?

In France the national motto is; “Liberté, égalité, fraternité” (Liberty, equality, fraternity)

In the U.S. the key phrase in the Declaration of Independence is: Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

Popular former area HC Pete Smolin, currently leading the program at Citrus Valley High School, will be in studio next Tuesday night on “The Mid Valley Sports Show”.

On April 27th El Rancho HC Rick Zepeda and Norwalk HC Jesse Ceniceros will be on live. While Whittier Christian manster Jeff Worthy and his defensive coordinator Pete Karavedas will be in the house on May 4th.

Note to Martin “The Knight” Lopez: It is football season my brother!

Former Temple City kicker Brian Giambastiani is 24 today. The specialist also booted for Mt. Sac and Henderson State in Arkansas.

On this date 98 years ago the Titanic struck an iceberg in the north Atlantic and began to take on water.

On this date 145 years ago Abraham Lincoln was shot by John Wilkes Booth in Ford’s Theater and died the next morning.

Stay thirsty my friends…
