South Hills Still Perfect; Edges Diamond Ranch

Thonye Charles returned a blocked field attempt 67 yards for a touchdown to get South Hills even in the second quarter.

(Covina) – Juaquin Elliott scored twice, including a five-yard run in the fourth quarter to lead South Hills to a 24-21 win over Diamond Ranch Thursday night at Covina District Field.

After Elliott scored early in the fourth and a South Hills field goal later in the quarter made it 24-14, Diamond Ranch’s Cade Miller hit Cristian Dixon with a touchdown pass with just 49 seconds left to cut the South Hills lead to three. The Huskies then recovered the onside kick to secure the victory.

Elliott also found the end zone in the second quarter to tie it at 14. After Connor Clark gave Diamond Ranch an early 7-0 lead with a four-yard TD run, Thonye Charles returned a blocked field 67 yards for a score to tie it at 7.

Dixon hauled in a six-yard pass from Miller in the second for a 14-7 lead before South Hills tied it and then eventually took the lead.

South Hills improved to 8-0 and 3-0 in the Hacienda with the victory while Diamond Ranch dropped to 5-3 and 2-1.

I agree with you. Looking at the size of Diamond Ranch athletes and looking at the South Hill athletes. Diamond Ranch should have scored more points. Maybe the game was to big for them?

Diamond Ranch is a tough football team. They are solid. If they would have avoided two catastrophic mistakes in the first half, they likely would have gone into the half up 14-0 and possibly stolen the game.

With that being said, South Hills did what superior football teams do vs opponents they should beat. They imposed their will and got stronger as the game progressed. By the end of the third quarter, Diamond Ranch had nothing left, and didn’t seem to know what else to do once South Hills acclimated to its opponent.

Great hard fought football game. Diamond Ranch showed up to the fight, had South Hills on the ropes early, and the Huskies responded as championship teams do.

Diamond Ranch dominated the first half because they had more athletes on the field and the best player on the field but the score was even at 14-14. Coaching is a big part of football. South Hills coaching staff is much better than most staffs in the valley. If Diamond Ranch had a decent OC they win that game going away. That kid Dixon will be playing on Saturdays.

Wow…did South Hills start playing great because Bogan is back in the area? Looks like the Huskies and the Bearcats could win titles in the same season.
