Arcadia's Taylor Lagace. Tailback?

T-Minus-126 Days until “The Mid Valley Classic”

Good Morning!

Got two notes.

According to one note, not counting APU’s pending move to Division II, the closest D-2 school is Humboldt State. That’s unbelievable.

The second note chided me about not giving the Pacific Leage enough love of late. Then they asked if Arcadia would consider moving Taylor Lagace to tailback…I’ve thought fast and short on this; NO!!!

Myles Carr will need a friend downfield, that friend is Mr. Lagace.

It was great to read the post Baldwin Park made here about the upcoming alumni flag football rundraiser this coming Saturday at (9: A.M.) the school. Time heals, but unfortuneately time allows you to forget (not a bad thing if you remember where you spent New Year’s 1984) and that is a shame when you consider all of the great players who have come out of BP. Including Ron Brown, Rod and Fred McNeil…just to start with.

All the dough goes to the Braves program. Good cause.

Speaking of good causes. If the Temple City School District wants to send me a letter asking for donations for the high school and junior high it should think twice. On the other hand, if it wants to send me a letter asking for help in paying for a football coach then I might be down.

Didn’t Bernie Kosar have really ugly mechanics?

Colin Cowherd had a great debate about Tim Tebow today… First he brings on Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis to talk about Lawrence Taylor’s arrest… Lewis, gutless as ever when off the football field, immediately goes to the “all athletes aren’t guilty” card… He can’t even express an opinion as to how or why Taylor’s life is falling apart.

Cowherd readjusts to the draft and Lewis questions why Tebow is getting so many people to help him and other players aren’t. Then it digresses into how black quarterbacks didn’t get the help or attention Tebow is getting.

Cowherd then uses Nebraska’s Tommie Frazier and Ohio State’s Troy Smith as examples. Charlie Ward from Florida State not being drafted, and Andre Ware out of Houston.

Frazier had health issues, early in his collegiate career Smith had character issues and was undersized, Ward never committed to playing football and ended up in the NBA, and Andre Ware wasn’t considered a risk at the time.

Andre Woodson put up great numbers at Kentucky, but so did Tim Couch. There were also reasons he went to Kentucky and not Florida, hence the attention he got versus Tebow.

Did Eric Crouch, Scott Frost, get any love?

None of the above, nor has anyone else, had the type of career Tebow did at Florida. Maybe Archie Griffin at Ohio State…Although Ricky Bell deserved the Heisman in 1975, but why bring that up.

Did the Denver Broncos reach? Absolutely! Do they think he can help them? Of course! I’m not a fan of Tebow’s game. I think he’s got real issues, but what has driven people into the Tebow camp has been the assault on his faith. When features are written, not about his lousy mechanics, but him being too evangelical then there’s a problem. Would it have been cooler if he had been a Muslim?

What has driven people into the Tebow camp is he inspires. Not everyone inspires.

Good people inspire you to want to help, players with chips on their shoulders don’t. You don’t even have to have a chip, you can just have a sense of entitlement (Jimmy Clausen). Lewis talked about where the love was for the other players…did he not get enough love when he was jailed for a connection with a murder during Super Bowl XXXIII? Did he get enough support then?

Is he the only NFL player that will refuse to speak out in defense of Lawrence Taylor? Hardly…They will rally…and when the facts become overwhelming they’ll be allowed to slink away.

I’m going with the Supersonics in the Western Conference finals…

Sticking in the Valle Vista the job new Nogales HC Sebastian Hernandez inherits is huge. After going 1-31 in the San Antonio League the last eight years, the Nobles are in a new league and away from Rowland, WestCo, South Hills, and Walnut.

That’s the easy part. The fact the new Valle Vista configuration is of seven teams, with only two playoff spots guranteed makes it tough. Defending champion San Dimas makes it tougher….

But the hardest thing Hernandez is going to have to change is attitude. Nogales is a school with a strong history but hasn’t had a non-losing season since 2001 when it was 5-5 in the Sierra League.

The Nobles have gone 15-65 since, the best record coming in 2005 when they went 4-6 and featured Eddie Ross.

There is talent, then again there has always been talent, but many of the guys working in the trenches like Julian Lujan and Genaro Acosta, though tenacious, are undersized.

Keith Bolden is a big talent, who we were told about a while ago, and should figure into Hernandez plans.

Non-league Diamond Bar, Garey, Ontario, South El Monte could lead to some early success but the road to contention, though there, will take a while to course.

Dig the green though.

Last Add Nogales: It’s been little noted, but when the Nobles hosted Arroyo on October 6, 2005…The Knights came in with a 20 game regular season winning streak. Stretching back to the final six weeks of 2003 through the first four weeks of 2005. Ross and tight end Oliver Estrella made plays for Tim Silvett’s squad in the 15-10 upset. What I really remember about that Thursday night was the fan turn out. Nogales, which had been struggling, seemed to have great fan support.

My guess is, with a little success, Hernandez can get them inspired again.

Last Add Taylor: I do pity Lawrence Taylor, but how many shots does he get in society? Now he’s up on rape charges… Has he been proven guilty? No. Is there a pattern suggesting things haven’t been right with him for a long time? Gee, do you think?

Isn’t it funny with all the young stars in the line up the Dodgers are looking to the return of the aging Manny Ramirez to provide the spark for the offense.

Ben Ogilve and Jim Gantner were great last night for the Brewers. It’s always a pleasure to see Don Money come to the plate.

Stay thirsty my friends…
