1. Northview WR/DB Jamier Johnson has transferred to Muir. Johnson will be a junior this year.

2. Upland head football coach Tim Salter is retiring after 25 years.

3. The eight-team Alliance of American Football League kicked off this past weekend with games Saturday and Sunday.

4. The Cleveland Browns signed former Kansas City Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt. However he is not eligible to play until the NFL completes its investigation of a domestic incident that occurred last February.

5. The Anaheim Ducks fired coach Randy Carlyle. GM Bob Murray will serve as interim coach for the remainder of the season.

6. Former Oklahoma quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Kyler Murray will attend the NFL combine and said he is fully committed to becoming an NFL quarterback. Murray, who was scheduled to report to spring training with the Oakland A’s in four days, will reportedly return $1.29 million of the $1.5 million of the signing bonus money the A’s gave him last year.

7. The Lakers 143-120 loss Sunday to the Philadelphia 76ers left them at .500 with a record of 28-28.

8. Los Altos at Damien, CIF Division 1 second round playoffs, Tuesday night, 7:00 p.m.

9. College Basketball AP Top 5: 1. Tennessee 2. Duke 3. Gonzaga 4. Virginia 5. Kentucky.

10. On this day in 1990 Buster Douglas knocked out Mike Tyson in the 10th round to win the world heavyweight boxing title in what many consider the greatest upset in sports history.

    The huge number of points surrendered by the Lakers in this one shows a lethargic, dispirited group who all realize they’re trade-bait at season’s end. I hate to say it, but it seems Magic is no better at managing than he was at coaching.
