Conquerors Conquer Colts, 49-6

By Rich Whittington

(Hacienda Heights) – The Los Altos Conquerors enjoyed a taste of “home cookin’” Friday evening, as they manhandled the visiting Covina Colts, 49-6, in front of a sizeable crowd at Los Altos High School.

The Conquerors scored first, as Senior running back Orellius Visaya found the end zone for a 2- yard touchdown run with 3:39 remaining in the first quarter of play. The score capped off an eight minute, 12 play, opening drive. Visaya added another score later in the contest, again hitting pay dirt on a one-yard touchdown blast.

Los Altos also proved its dominance in the passing game, as well as on special teams. Senior quarterback David Hacegaba, who completed 12 of 15 passes for 230 yards, connected with three different receivers for touchdowns. The Conquerors back-up quarterback also got into the scoring game, completing a 66 -yard TD pass. While the aforementioned accomplishments are impressive, the games top performance was provided by Senior running back Rene Zaldivar. Zaldivar’s evening included rushing for 50 yards, catching a 66 -yard touchdown pass, converting a two-point PAT attempt, and returning a kickoff for an 85-yard score. If that weren’t enough, Zaldivar also intercepted a pass from Covina’s James Duronslet.

Covina finally got on the scoreboard early in the final quarter. With 11:16 remaining in the game, Senior running back Erik Cuellar found the end zone on a
58 -yard scamper. Cuellar carried the ball 19 times for 130 yards, and had the Colts’ lone score.

Next week, Los Altos travels to Wilson High School, to take on the Wildcats. Covina is also on the road, traveling to “The Swamp”, to battle the South El Monte Eagles. Kickoff for both contests is scheduled for 7:00PM.

LA will always run up the score. They play Wilson HH this week and all their starters will stay in the game until the end of the 4th qtr. No doubt. Wilson HH is a struggling program and all LAs reserves should play the entire game.

LOL what game were you watching? Since when is Zed Rodriguez-Brown not a starter? You guys are funny. They played all their starters til the end. The starting QB took himself out of the game because he knows with a huge lead he doesn’t need to risk being injured.

They played their reserves on a running clock the entire 4th quarter, Mr. Question mark. They also had a TD called back. Go troll somewhere else. Go Conquerors!
