4. Ronald Acuna Jr. of the Atlanta Braves became the third player in baseball history to hit 40 home runs in a season at 21 years old or younger.

5. Kenley Jansen blew his eighth save of the season in the Dodgers 8-7, 11 inning loss to the Tampa Bay Rays Wednesday night.

7. Utah at USC Friday night 6:00 p.m. FS1.

8. UCLA AD Dan Guerrero, who has who has held the position since 2002, will retire in July 2020 the school announced.

9. The Northview-Los Altos Freshman game scheduled for Thursday was canceled by Los Altos for lack of players.

10. The New York Yankees clinched the AL East title Thursday with a 9-1 win over the Angels.

    @ Knightwatch: Well, UCLA has done well in baseball lately, even winning a national championship in that sport. We might have to give Dan Guerrero that one.

    The politically correct statement on Dan Guerrero’s performance at UCLA is that he underachieved. The no-nonsense account is that he managed to destroy football, while simultaneously chipping away at what’s left of the legendary basketball program. Thus, while diehard Bruin fans are glad to see his backside, Trojan fans undoubtedly wish he were staying for another five years.
